I'm having difficulty deciding which video card to pick, both seems similiar to me, but I've been viewing many benchmarks, and the 2 way battle between them seems to be even, so i dont know what my final verdict should be! 7900GT volt modded? or x1950xt?

Don't buy a video card based on potential volt mod overclocks if you're planning on using the card for a decent length of time. I'm not one of these naysayers who naysay just to naysay. In my situation, the card lasted just over 6 months. I hit 745/1010, rthdrbl and atitool stable, artifact free, for at least 30 mins. Didn't let it run any longer. So no doubt, if that is your main purpose, get the 7900gt, as it will oc rediculously with the volts. If you need something reliable, don't factor that in to your equation.

I have to question whether the cost of the upgrade is worth the bump in performance you would get. You could consider selling your 7800GT and paying a bit more for a 8800GTS 320mb to make it worthwhile. If you're set on getting one of the two you mentioned, then get the X1950XT.

7900GT! Though I may be a little biased ;)

Got my 7900gt to 705/810, core vmodded to 1.5v and ram at stock volts. I got my core up to 710 but I started having some slight issues in STALKER. Mine has been running fine for also about 6 months with no problems, but I never know if and when it will die.

You should be able to get a used 7900gt for less than that in the FS/FT section here.

well, im not SET on picking either the x1950xt or the 7900GT, its just they both seem to perform exceptionally, and are in my price range (~$200 CDN).

i would consider selling my 7800GT for a 8800GTS, however, at $300+ I just cant seem to afford it right now, I'm looking to upgrade to c2d/2gb ram as well, so i have a limit on what i can spend in the video card dept.

If you are ok with games set at above average quality and not all the way at max, than a 7900gt or the ATI are good enough. My OCed 7900gt cant run games like oblivion and stalker at full, but close to it with good performance.

My vote goes for the X1950XT. I think everyone's forgetting that the XT can be voltmodded too and via software which is much less hassle than a hard voltmod. After voltmodding my two 7800GTs it was a relief to use software to up the voltage on my XT. You don't have to run the ATI card at the elevated voltages 24/7 which makes for a longer life. Most of the XT's I've seen can hit 700-720Mhz on the core and 825-850Mhz on the mem with stock cooling, if you have decent airflow in your case.

Besides the performance advantage at stock, the XT also has better IQ (in the way of AF). To get close to the same IQ the 7900GT will take a performance hit.

I certainly agree (I just bought a 7950GT). I just figured he could sell his 7800GT and effectively buy an 8800GTS for under $200 US.
