X1950xt has little dots on screen and weird shaders

I dont know if this has something to do with artifacts cuz the card is overheating or something, or if it is due to having a bad driver/directx installation.

It does it in fear(directx game) and also when playing movies thru the dvi to the tv. i can see small single flashing red pixels on the tv, and larger black squares in the video games.


they are in patterns, like horizontal or diagonal about 1 inch apart across the whole screen. and sometimes theres a wierd purple or brown or blue patch in the sky, or on a wall texture. the card is a Sapphire Radeon x1950 xt 256mb pci-e - its also the card notorious for being hot and having fan speed issues.

i hope i havent fried some chip in it.

Sounds like vid card problem.

Not saying it needs to be changed, but it does sound like it. Have you got a spare you could try out, or try out that one in someone else's system?

Does the same happen in SAFE mode? or VGA mode?

man i dunno what the problem is, its doing it in directx but not in opengl

Try posting in Video cards and grafix.

I would still think it is vid card related.
At a guess - Directx is distributed by MS, so by default wouldn't be the most 'economical' of API's.
