X1950XT Fan Speed Questions

At what point/temperature should the fan on the x1950xt kick into "airplane takeoff" mode? I was running the the HL2 stress test over and over and the GPU temp would get up to around 82 degrees (C) but the fan speed never changed that I could tell. My guess is it is running around 50% or so of max, as it is a lot quieter than when it briefly kicks up to 100% on system boot.

Also when I did "Run automated clock configuration utility" the temps got up to 89 degrees (C) and the fan never kicked up. It stayed at that temp but the x1950xt locked up after that as the utility pushed the GPU frequency to 685mhz. I don't quite understand how this utility is supposed to work if it pushes the GPU frequency past it's workable speed?

I am using Catalyst 7.6 drivers and the included Catalyst Control Center. Can ATITool be run with the CCC installed/running?

Thanks!

In ATI tray tools under "hardware/overclocking settings/fan" you can set your fan to do whatever you want. I left mine on default which says 48% fan power at 100°C. Never got there yet though. Usually the fan runs at 20% power and is absolutely silent.

Yo, your problem sounds completely identically to mine. My Sapphire x1950xt 256 MB would hit 89C, and then I would hear the fan start to increase, and cool it down. I downloaded ATI Tray Tools, and turned me fan up to around 2500-3000rpm. My GPU will hit around 60-65c under load now.

I just close CCC down, and turn the Catalyst AI off in ATI Tray Tools. Works like a charm, and let's me know my fps.

My X1900XTX's fan has never ramped up fast enough by itself. The card always seems to overheat and crash before the fan speeds up enough. I just have ATT set it to 80% immediately when I load up a game, which is better anyway since I don't like the changing pitch of the sound you get otherwise.

ATI Tray Tool is nice. I ditched the bloated, slow CCC for ATT. Reinstalled XP and simply installed the ATI driver and ATT. No more .NET or ATI bloatware.
