system specs:
c2d e6400 (stock speed)
2gb wintec ampo
sapphire x1950xt
corsair hx620 <- PSU
gigabyte 965p-ds3

games crashing:
rainbow six vegas
cs:source
bf2
wow(sometimes)

i dont know why its doing this and anyhelp would be appreciated. sometimes it just say that there was a vpu error(i think thats what it says)than my computer is fine, but in vegas on bf2 it just crashes my computer all together. my ati tool sets the fan to be 100% on if it gets above 68c and that has worked for the most part but every once in a while i get the errors. sometimes i get dx9 errors too..

thanks guys

Which driver set are you using?

Have you tried using a different set?

What is your system and VidCard temps under load?

Could be memory sticks (make sure they aren't running to tight?). Also check the power connector to the vid card.

lets say instead of 5-5-5-5 or whatever it's suppose to be, it's running 3-2-3-3. Or maybe it doesn't have enough voltage. Give more specifics on your ram.

Could also be a defective power supply ... the Corsair 620 watt would normally be more then powerful enough even for 2 x X1950XT's in Crossfire but not if it isn't putting out its rated power.

to rule out the CPU/memory ... set everything to stock speeds

are all the games full patched, your drivers up to date?
[7.4 Cats]

using CCC or ATi Tray tools?

are you monitoring the GPU temps under load?
fan acts normally? spinning up under increasing load?

case temps good?

no airflow problems or dust?

and have you tried your x1950xt in another rig?

what about other games and are your 3DMarkXX scores in line?

the only time i go underload is when im in game and i dont like minimizing my games... idles around 60c. i set ati tool to speed up to 100% when over 68c so it doesnt over heat but sometimes it doesnt.

case temps could be better (its 80 degrees in my room year round)

airflow is good, little dust but i blast it out every week. i do have a problem with my cpu heatsink, like its not seated right but my cpu temps never go too high (stays under 50c)

i havent tried my card in another rig but ive tried a different card in my rig

so it's down to the x1950xt ... it seems

have you reseated it? and maybe try a different power connector from another lead

and what about other games and 3DMarkXX scores?

i'd run 3DMark05 and '06 just to see that your card is not under-performing for some reason ... and it may also stress it pretty well ... the instant you come out of it, check your GPU temps

and report back

good luck :)

oh ... what about *other* games?

oblivion is great

but ... run the FEAR benchmark and keep increasing the details till you get to maximum - except soft shadows ...

alt-tab out if you have to to check the temps immediately after running it or a game to see *max* load temps ... you should see them quickly dropping
