I get the card on Fri, and would like to know if i need a new PSU or if I can just play.

With all this trash talk about Saphires power requirments, and failing cards; I think I should be cautious.

Here are my PSU specs...

Ultra X Connect 500W (shiny!)

Voltage +3.3VDC +5VDC +12VDC -12VDC -5VDC +5VSB
Max. Current 28A 30A 34A 0.8A 0.3A 2.0A
Min. Current 0.3A 0.1A 0A 0A 0A 0A
Total Output Power: 500W (Full Load, Nominal Input Voltage)

Any first hand suggestions or discussions would be appreciated.

Please, no AGP V's PCI-e posts.

I'm running a well-equipped system w/ an X1950XT on this: This and have power to spare.

That 500W will be more than enough.

Thanks for the reply.

However, your PSU has dual rail. Mine's 1 generation behind dual rail.

Also of note: the card is a Gecube. with their monster cooling apparatus that uses a peltier (TEC) cooler. I dont know the draw of the pelt or the card.

You think they would post such things under specs :-\

But I got a question, they say that the PSU must have 30A on the 12V rail, but my question really is, Does it have to be 30A on only 1 rail or must be 30A in total using both 12V rails? My PSU has 19A on the first rail and 17A on the other one, and is a total of 36A in the 12V. Does it work that way. My PSU is an Antec SmartPower 2.0 of 500W, I'm interested buying that videocard.

your PSU only has 34 amp's at max load (it will never reach it rated output..always 2A lower), but yes it will work fine with a X1950 series card...I have a Antec SPII 500 as a spare and it works fine with my Sapphire X1950Pro.

if you have dual +12v then you just combine the total output (minus 2A of course)if it's over 30A then it's fine.

Kool, now I don't have to worry once I upgrade to the X1950
