If anyone happens to be in the $150 range, they won't have to deal with the crippled X1950 Pro or the 7900GS cards anymore.

There is also a Connect3D X1950XTX (Crossfire) card for ~$260 but it's not really a good deal anymore after the advent of the 8800GTS 320MB.

Hah, I just found this as well.

linky

Haven't pulled the trigger yet, not quite in the budget I was looking for. Besides, I'd have to replace my PSU as well.

A very decent card, using one myself in one of my rigs. Just make sure to use ATITool to get the fan settings properly adjusted.

In the $150 range, it's hard to beat this card, esp. if you don't like nVidia products.

This is a great card for 1280x1024 and lower. I should know -- I'm running one. Anything above that resolution with AA/AF and it becomes a pretty slideshow.

I use this card at 1680x1050 4xAA/AF and high details in games without any problems (WOW, LOTR: Online, Stalker)

Review here shows nothing lower than 22FPS at 1600 x 1200 4X FSAA/8X AF

Not exactly a slide show ..

WOW and LOTR are not that graphic intensive.

22FPS is a slideshow -- it's not playable. If I'm not getting 40FPS sustained with FRAPS, I'm not happy.

I wonder how much longer these will be available. I'd like to pick one up for $100 for my wife's PC at some point. I'd be concerned that they would all go out of stock, but I think you can still buy x850xt.

I was running a 9800np until a couple months ago and I considered it sufficient. 22FPS isn't that bad...anything less than like 15 is pretty bad for me, less than 5 is unbearable; and I would only not mind anything under 15 in an RTS (or TBS, of course). So it really depends on the person.

Excellent find. Might just pull the plug. Anyone care to comment on the noise level?

Its the old ATI stock cooler, on the standard fan setting its not to bad but at 50% it starts to get annoying (to me, this is subjective of course). Its more the pitch then the amount of noise if you get my meaning...it stands out compared to my other noisy case fans.

However, I believe there are several good aftermarket cooling solutions that weren't available when I had mine.

Performance was always pretty nice however.

If $100 is your price-point then don't bother getting it now, because

A. they will be around for a long time, and as you said will only get cheaper.
and
B. By the time it hit's $100 there will be a similar performing card that consumes a lot less power, is a lot quieter, and will probably have 2x the memory.

Plus the word on the street is now that AMD owns ATI, AMD is gearing up to start a price war with nVidia, similar to its current situation with Intel. So in the coming months prices on video cards are speculated to tumble fairly fast.

Peace,
