X1950 Pro vs. 7900 GT

Trying to decide, which would be better? I currently have an X1950 Pro, however I'm planning to build a new computer and I'm wondering if I should get a 7900 GT with it, or keep the X1950 Pro? It will mainly be used for Video editing, with some 3D animation and gaming once in a while.

new kind of. Other hand ATI' cards got better image quality but W-TY SU*CKS.

I'd think it would be hard finding a decent 7900GT at this time. The best ones were factory-overclocked and the card is now discontinued.

I have noticed they're a little hard to find. I've found one at a local store though, eVGA 7900 GT KO for $269 CAN. Even if the X1950 Pro is comparable, or close I'd obviously rather stick with that instead of spending almost another $300 on a new one.

What you posted isn't true, most of ATI's partners do have good warranty..sure it isn't lifetime but it's still reasonable, just don't lump every company associated with ATI in one pile just because Sapphire has crap warranty in the US.

For the record, outside the US very few of Nvidia's partners honor their lifetime warranty even if they offer it (BFG is the worst offender for this).

But once again learn to speak english...

If the price difference is that much, then go for it. Factory overclocked 7900GT's (like the eVGA 7900GT KO) are generally faster than X1950 Pro but the X1950 Pro will be faster in Oblivion and much faster in Need for Speed: Carbon, where it will beat even the 7900GTX.

I'm wondering how much of a difference there would be between the cards when I'm using it for Video editing. I use programs like Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Cinema 4D.

Does the videocard really even matter for video editing or 3d animation? It seems like you'd be fine with most discrete videocards for tasks like that. The OP did mention he'd be doing some gaming, so I guess there might be some noticable difference between the 7900 GT and the X1950 Pro there. However, if he's already got an x1950 pro, I can't imagine the performance difference moving to a 7900 GT would be worth the expense.

Please don't. Moving from a X1950PRO to a overclocked 7900GT is more of a sidegrade than anything else, also you will sacrifice image quality like Angle Independent AF and HDR with FSAA, todays and future games are moving toward shaders and there is where the X1950PRO shines being able to beat even the almighty 7900GTX in games like Oblivion. If you really want performance just get the X1950XT which is hoving between 150 and 170 bucks and sell your X1950PRO.

All the applications mentioned use OpenGL , except I think premiere, I know after effects, and cinema4d are OpenGL. I think premiere still just uses the 2d acceleration.
Your current card is about as good as your going to get in the same price range.

7900GT is way old, and unless you overclock them, they're not particularly that good imo.
