X1900XTX has IQ Problems

Pixel shader programs are compiled in the graphics driver, of course, so ATI should be able to fix the problem with a driver update, and that's exactly what they expect to do.

See, this is why I like techreport - they dont ignore IQ problems and possible driver bugs/cheats/hacks, which is something I wish more sites did. I'm glad this got brought up, and I'd be interested to see how the issue gets resolved.

ok i see it now. thanks for saving me a trip to the optometrist.
Hope ATI will fix it in the next driver

What I'd like to see is if this affects performance (not sure how to test this) if it does then bad ATI otherwise just seems like some form of oversight on ATI's part.

Anyone else play BF2 with their X1900 card yet? I get flickering shadows on the rifles and shotguns and wondered if anyone else had noticed it? Thanks!

i've noticed too. Which driver are you on? i'm still on the driver that came with the cd.

Everything else though, IQ seems to be fine.

Shimmering?

ATI seems to have done a pretty good job this time around. Speed, price (well, compared to the 7800GTX-512's) & availability. The Techreport article indicates ATI will fix it & they claim with no performance hit. I'd even expect a boost in performance with driver updates so I'll give ATI the benefit & wait & see.

I sure hope they fix it since I've got an XTX arriving on Monday 🙂.

Yes I noticed this as well but not on the rifles/shotguns but rather turrets. I chalk it up to the drivers - hopefully they get those 6.2 out ASAP.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I'm using the driver that came on the CD, as I'm sure everyone is at this point. Hopefully it will be cleared up soon with a new Cat release. The driver that came with the card does not have the BF2 SF night vision fix, either. 🙁 Tons of glare and lines down the screen when using the goggles.

yes, and it's VERY annoying. I'm rather unhappy having just made the transition from my 7800gtx to this card

I'm glad you didn't flame anything, but what is it that's not useful to know here? It would appear that the X1900XTX is failing to render certain things in those images. Could have an effect on overall scores. Driver fixes are always around the corner though.

LOL

I've never cared much about 3Dmark problems because I don't put much stock in 3dmark. Back when ATI and nVidia had "cheats" in it, I didn't care.

Now that ATI has rendering issues with it, I still don't care much, but it is "news" like any other IQ issue.

I don't think people are ever going to get used to the idea we're not console gamers and different cards render games/demos differnently. Which is why I imagine Wreckage posted this and anyone who thinks this wouldn't have made the board if it were about a nVidia part should PM me for a great deal on first gen (V2) SLI. 😉

I have the 1900xt and play BF2. I haven't noticed that, but that doesn't mean its not there. I was so empressed with the detail on everything else that I don't remember looking at my gun.....lol

I do have issues with the 1900XT though. But I won't hijack this thread. you can look here http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1791343&enterthread=y

[ATi]explained that this shader is different than the one used on either the the X1800 or the GeForce cards because it "employs both Fetch4 and 24-bit DST" in order to best take advantage of the X1900's capabilities.

Fetch 4? . . . isn't that part of ATi's "workaround" for VTF?
