The VF900's will run better if you have really good case circulation. The prob with the VF-series is they just swirl hot air in your case, they don't have a way to directly exhaust it. The AC solutions do, hence their better load cooling.

Actually the new AC coolers (X1 and X2) do not exaust heat anymore.

x1900xt + vf900 (Arctic Silver Ceramique)
Temps:
Idle 45c
Load 75c

Lian Li v1000 with 120mm side panel exhaust.

I got about the same results with the stock cooling but the vf900 is quieter and idles less.

i really like zalman coolers, i have a vf700cu on my 6800gt
its just that there are more reviews showing the opposite of your results, plus the vf900 and the accelero are the only ones i can easily get around where i live

i dont like the accelero because of its blowing direction

the way i see it is that people with x1900 + vf900, have really good case flow or they have fans that are blowing directly at the video card. which is what i would do if i had gone with the vf900.

the accelero x2 isn't that bad of a cooler and i know where your coming from, cause i too was reading other users results that were not so good for the vf900, thats why i have a accelero x2. the southbridge on my a8r32-mvp doesn't get that hot under load even with the accelero blowing partly on it.

Much time has passed since you made this good thread NoDamage, and I have slowly discovered the VF-900 wasn't as good as I once thought it was.

The stock cooler IS better at cooling, but not quieter. Just an update, it also eats AS5, so if there are any vf900 useres out there who are getting strange results, ya might want to check it. Back when you first gathered my temps, highest I really ever got was 54C. By the time I got sick of it, my card was getting up to 86C!!

Be careful.

The Accelero coupled with an Antec Super Cyclone is a super cooling/exhaust solution.
The exhaust of the X2 matches up directly with the intake if the SC to get that hot Air out of the case

Super Cyclone
