X1900XTX comparison

Well, I'm having trouble deciding whether or not to upgrade my AMD platform. I play Unreal Tournament 3, mostly CTF, and I am a half step away from getting together an e8300, 4Gb DDR 800, and an Asus P5K-E for @ 400 A new 3870 would be cheaper at 150 dollars but how much more will i get out of a 3870 compared to my X1900XTX? Or would you recommend keeping the X1900XTX and upgrading the platform instead? I haven't seen to many reviews that include the 1900 besides a 3870.

Also, are any of the 2600 models close in comparison with the 1900 for better comparison results?

Thanks ahead of time :)

A 3870 should give a noticeable boost. I personally went from an X1900XTX to an 8800GT and enjoyed a healthy boost in gaming performance. If possible, see if you could find 8800GTs or 8800GTSs within your price range; they generally outperform 3870s by around 15% or so.

3870 would provide a sizeable boost. But don't go out buying anything yet, the next gen cards are due out very soon (rumoured to be June) so wait it out until then.

since you resolution on your monitor is 1280x1024 what ever next generation graphics card you get will be limited by your cpu in this case your fx-60. you wont be getting the max out if your new card. Im not saying you wont feel a difference but at that resolution at times you might barely feel any. If you up the resolution (get a bigger monitor) and compare both cards then there will be a huge difference.

Upping the resolution is not going to give him higher performance, but lower. Even at 1280x1024 a 1900xt is stressed plenty in modern games, so upgrading the video card would provide a noticeable improvement. An FX60 is fine for gaming, I'm using a similar cpu, and when I upgraded from a 1900xt to a 8800gt I saw almost a 2x improvement in performance.

If I was you, I would try to sell some of your components or the system itself. You can still probably get some value out of it. Upgrading has never been this cheap: 2GB of DDR2 ram you can now get for $30 after MIR and a decent mobo for $70-90. Any of the Allendale CPUs under $150 overclocked will be faster than anything AMD has to offer. 8800GTs can be found for $140.

Otherwise, I agree with others in that I would upgrade the videocard and the ram to 2GB if you intend to keep the FX60. Have you tried overclocking the processor?

i was just stating that he would see a bigger difference between the card he has now and his future big upgrade if he were running at higher resolutions. at a lower res he wont see a big difference. except maybe cysis. ive got a hard time running it on that res.

Yeah, 3.0Ghz 3.0Ghz stable and I think I am going to sell it. I already have a wish-list made up at New Egg between 350 (e7200) or 427 (e8400) but i see the e8300 is coming out and OEM is at 165$ = total cost with 83 ~ 400$ This includes 4Gb and an 8-phase pwm board. I think its time for a new system even though this is in perfect working order.

i think you should hold out for the 4850/4870 and keep the cpu/mobo until nehalem or whatever AMD has at that time (late 2009).

I upgraded from my x1900xtx to a 8800GTS G92. The performance increase in COD4 was at least 30fps +, Supreme Commander 30fps +, TF2 30fps +, CsDOD 60fps +.

I was extremely happy with the performance upgrade.

My system:

Koolance Watercooled PC650 System
Amd 4800+ o/c to 2.6ghz
x1900xtx upgraded to 8800gts g92
