I don't trust the scores. Everyone has assumed including me that the x1900 would be roughly a higher piped version of the 1600XT (4 x pipes and shaders). Problem is the 1600XT post abnormally high 3DMark05 scores. Look at the reviews on the web, a 1600XT will outscore an 6800GS, 6800GT, X800XL and come within 200-500 points of a 6800 Ultra and a 850XT in 3dMark05. However, real world it can barely out perform a vanilla 6800.
I always assumed that the increased Mark05 scores were the results of the additional shaders per pipe and that the 580s would have the same phenom, a monster 3dmark05 score (~12000-13000) but real world games scores with a smaller performance delta versus anything else (excluding the 7900, which would be a toss up).
