some of you may know i work at bestbuy in new jersey, so today, being bored as usual, im checking employee price on a few vid cards, and wanted to see if we could order the x1600xt ...just for the hell of it....

and what do i come across??

the x1900xtx, 699.99 retail, so im guessing this is msrp

what this tells me is:

1. no more paper launches from ati, and should have great availibility

2. friggin cards are gettin expensive...

3. shouldnt be too long :D

I think the XTX is supposed to be the equivalent PE version, but yeah, that's expensive. That's also pretty cool that it's listed, though. Hopefully they really will be here on time in quantity.

I definitely wouldn't mind switching back to ATi, but I'm practically chained to SLi, now. :)

I have a best friend that also works at Best Buy, so I land a lot of stellar deals. If it's priced just right and performance is comparable to a nvidia SLi configuration in the same price bracket, I'll definitely go for it.

If you work at Best Buy then you should know that it doesn't mean jack if its in the system. You don't know that that item is coming into stores. The X800XT was listed in the system forever and the best card seen in most stores was the 6800GT. It will likely be available only on Customer Fulfillment or maybe the website. It also does not mean the end of paper launches. BBY may allocate stock for it, but that doesn't mean ATI can deliver it. Same that with the X800XT in BBY stores back in the day.

Its cool to see that it is in planning, but I wouldn't base any buying decisions on this info. It'll likely turn out just like the past two major ATI card launches (X800 series & X1800 series): FUD! ;)

From what I've read it's the same architecture with increased pixel shaders (48).

hello fanboism and misinformation....

us having them available on cf usually means you can purchase them anywheres on the internet, which for most of us on AT, thats how we get our product, not a B&M store. second, you just talk yourself into a circle, if the best we carry is the 6800gt, that should be telling you something about the validity of what BBY has on their shelves as to the availibility of a product....

I'll get my next card when vista comes out and games are actually out that make use of SM4.0+ features. Until then the x1800xt should be fine since I just play the same games over and over anyway (CS:S and BF2). I wish I had more time to play though....oh well!

What, considering the 512gtx sold out like crazy even at $1000 a piece on fleabay, $699 for a supposedly much faster card doesnt seem that bad. But if supply is high enough then the street price will drop in a month or 2.

My hope is that it's availible at launch. Sometime in January...I think ATI's realizing what they did with the R520 and they want to clean it up.

Hahahhahahaha, k

What does CF have to do with the net? And your last statement just didn't make any sense. What I was describing was referring to back during the launch of the GF 6 series & X800 series, not now.

Stop being a jackass and close your mouth before you look like more of an idiot. Idiot.

DX10? Who cares. Even if you upgrade to Vista it will still play DX9 and DX8 games. And it's not like Vista won't run with a lower end video card that is not DX10 compliant. It just won't run with all the GUI eye candy. You won't see games that require DX10 for at least another 2 1/2 to 3 years. And I'm being generous here because it's likely to be closer to the 3 year range and up. Vista isn't scheduled for release till Q4'06 and you'll be extremely lucky to see a DX10 game out in 1 1/2 years from the actual release of Vista.

From what I've little is available from ATI so far about the R580, it's basically R520 version 2.0. There doesn't seem to be any radical change from the available info. Hopefully it's more than that and we'll all be pleasantly surprised.

1) I think ATI will have decent but not stellar availability at launch. They can't afford to make the same mistake as with the R520 launch. Doesn't have to be warehouses stuffed to the rafters with video card type availability but it better be good enough that nobody has more than a one or two week wait maximum if they want a card after the initial batch is out.

2) I think it'll be a decent but not great upgrade performance wise from the R520. This is after all mostly just a refresh. You could almost call the R580 the R520 done right.

3) They need to make good on their previous AVIVO promises and get full HD video decoding and encoding in. I dabble in video encoding.

Do these and the fans will come flocking back. I got money in my pocket ATI, show me what you got on the table and I'll see if I wanna buy in. If I'm not happy, my next card is going to be an nVidia.

In case anyone missed it, there is a picture on Xbitlabs.com of the X1900 courtesy of hkepc.com
