X1900XT summary

well ive just made a switch from XFX 7800GT SLI to an Sapphire X1900XT.

didnt have many problems switching, driver cleaning and then updating a few other drivers like the chipset ones have got the card running where it should

i was gonna plug for a X1900XTX but couldnt get hold of one for the money i wanted to spend (round £280) so i settled for a Sapphire X1900XT for £265 shipped (from US no less) which was brand new

first and foremost it seems to clock really well. close to 700 on the core, and nearly 800 on the mem (i think...cant remember) but its at XTX speeds now.

i havent gamed for a long period of time, but had about 30mins messing round in lost coast and the cooler didnt even spin up past idle. its definately no louder than my previous set up.

as for lost coast itself...theres a definate improvement. overall, despite the power of 2 7800GT's, they didnt seem to play lost coast all that smooth at 12x10 4xTSAA and 16xAF with HQ settings and HDR

on the radeon... 12x10, 4xQA AA, 16xHQAF, and max quality settings it was super smooth...the FPS werent all that different but it was just a smoother experience. and there was no tearing.

its not as fast at 3d mark, but who cares....it seems to be a better experience in the actual games.

oh and the filtering quality is sublime...i mean really sublime.

i havent gamed for a long period of time, but had about 30mins messing round in lost coast and the cooler didnt even spin up past idle. its definately no louder than my previous set up.

You must have a loud set of 7800GT's... The XT(X) is certainly a sweet card, but quiet it ain't. Honestly, if you don't ever hear your card spin up, I would keep an eye on the temps (or maybe get your hearing checked).

Mine is the same way, it doesn't get loud until the temps rise enough for the cooler to spin faster. Mine will be quite when gaming but after 2 hours or so it will start getting louder. It never got to "fanblower" loud though.

Wow, that's pretty cool then. Mine cranks up the RPM's usually within a few minutes. Not all the way of course, but you can definitely hear a difference in pitch.

well i do listen to music through shure e2c's and i have it cranked usually. but the likely cause of the rather quiet fan is

1) computer sits right under a window, and being that im not too far from the coast, theres always a super cool breeze drifting right into my computer

2) the loudest fan on my computer is actually the naff northbridge fan on the mobo... 40mm 6500rpm FTW!

3) its idle right now at 55 load only goes upto about 80

i have actually got it to spin up abit since that OP, but its certainly not much. certainly not enough to detract from the game at hand

same here. HL2 causes a light whirr after a couple hours. COD2 makes it more audible, after 30 min+ of gaming.

my vf900 cooled x1900xt @ xtx+ speeds is inaudible from 1 foot away. other noise-makers: 2 x 1500rpm adda fans + 1 x 1000 rpm nexus

Mine generally starts speeding up about 10 minutes into a game, but I find the gradual changes in the pitch quite irritating so I instead have it set to power up to 80% and stay there when I load a game.

but ive felt the heat being ejected from this card out the vent at the back, and it is awesomely hot. i really wouldnt want that going anywhere near the inside of my case lol!

stock cooler is doing me fine right now, may re-seat it with some AS5, but it seems that its been applied very well anyway
