X1900 XTX problems etc..

This is my first post all so please be nice. I just bought an ati sapphire X1900 XTX to replace my X850 XT. I uninstalled the old ati drivers and then pulled the X850 from the system. Then installed the X1900 XTX and booted up the system and installed the new catalyst 6.3 drivers and .net 2.0 (not in that order)! The computer seems to run fine with no crashes but some other problems appear. The catalyst control center says my GPU is clocked at 500 mhz and says my RAM is running at 594! This cannot be right! it should be defaulted at 650 for GPU and 775 for RAM. Then I tried to run the latest version of ATiTool and it won't even display info about my GPU and RAM. Do I have a bad card or am I just doing something wrong? I even tried using Driver Cleaner Pro and reinstalled the catalyst drivers but still have the same result. I am at my witts end. Also some games seemed to run smoother on my X850 XT like Battle for middle earth 2. Now my games stutter and windows media player visualizations stutter too. I am thinking about selling it and getting a 7900 GTX. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What you're seeing is the default 2D clock speed which is normal. After you fire up a game it should automatically default to 3D clocks. ATi Tool only works if you disable ati2evxx.exe (2 instances) in the task manager or go to Run>Services.msc and disable ATi HotKeyPoller. Since you seem very new to the X1K series and overclocking, I'd advise you not to mess with ATi Tool or any of the services for now and just stick to CCC. As for Battle for middle earth 2, delete any old profiles if that game supports them and check your Vsync, Antialiasing and Anisofiltering settings in CCC to make sure they match what you used with your X850.

Thanks, I hunted for this info earlier but o no avail. Actually I have water cooled my X850 XT and my CPU so I know a little about OC'ing but I'm still pretty new to this. Thanks for the info on ATiTool. I will be using it to play around with a few settings. If I tweak values in CCC will it also boost my 3d preformance?
