You can set it via ATI Tray tools and maybe CCC

Anyway, mine was defaulted at 0 for some reason, I reset it to 3, and got a big boost in BF2. (only game I've played)

I think Oblivion is better w/ it at 0 if its anything like nvidia

What does that setting do? It's set to "undefined" by default for me.

It's the same as that Render xx Frames ahead for nvidia

Whatever it does precisely, tweakguides says set it at three and I got a 20-30+ fps increase in BF2 + much smoother experience, I think ATI Tool or maybe the chuck patch amy set it to 0 for some reason

btw

after setting it to that

at 1680x1050, 4xAA, Adaptive AA, 16xHQ AF, EVERY Bf2 setting to high, high quality textures, I am getting an avg of 115+ fps in this fking game. Its around 120 walking around, 140-200+ flying, and around 80-90 at the lows. (w/ gamelock.fps 200)

I have been raving about this damn card I know, but man I am so freaking pleased, at this detail setting this is about a 2.5x increase from my GTX, maybe threefold if you do it by minimum framerates.. I cant believe they managed to make this thing that fast.
I'm at 700/900 mem/core btw

it can make input lag though.. did on my ps2 keyboard at least
edit:3 seems to be fine, but 5 causes lag ..

Increase over what?

At those listed settings I was hitting closer to the 90 range on average and I was getting some jerkiness, I had thought it might have been my OC but changing the FQS setting to 3 not only solved the jerkiness and upped my FPS about 20-30%, but also had a similar effect in HL2 EP 1 (better FPS)

When I try this on my x1900GT, I get a black screen and have to reboot. Anyone know why?

edit: N/M, upon reboot, It keeps the settings and displays fine.

I'm pretty sure only ATI Tray Tools has this setting. It's in the "3d" settings section

What I'm asking is whether you have run any proper benchmarks or is it just anecdotal evidence?

Well it's interesting you mention it now. I ran some benchies with fraps and my results are of course, contradictory to my anecdotal observations.

Settings are:

1680x1050, all BF2 image quality settings to High, 6xAA, 8xAF w/ HQ and Full Trilinear enabled. Catalyst AI to High, Texture/Mipmaps to highest quality

Flip Queue Size at 3:

2006-06-20 21:33:13 - BF2
Frames: 10959 - Time: 95626ms - Avg: 114.603 - Min: 62 - Max: 200

Flip Queue Size at 0:

2006-06-20 21:36:32 - BF2
Frames: 9355 - Time: 77583ms - Avg: 120.581 - Min: 77 - Max: 200

Now, it's pretty tough to get a good indication because AFAIK you have to run these separate. I tried to do the exact same things each time, fly a jet, loose bombs, eject, blow up a car, shoot gun all over the place, try not to look upwards as it shoots frames through the roof.

I'll have to give it more consideration, but according to tweakguides and my in-game observations it seemed to work better at 3.

I was on a Gulf of Oman server with 2-3 other people to minimize lag issues etc.

700/900 core/mem clocked

How can I enable Flip Queue Size through the registry? I can't use the ATi Tray Tool because it freezes my computer.
