X1800XT VS X1900

Both cards are the same price right now, give or take ten bucks. I'm going to assume that anyone that has 5 bills to plunk down for a video card is bright enough to notice that the 1900 is faster, or at least notice that it's a bigger number and and wonder why. So the question is, when do we see the 1800xt prices drop through the floor? But with the X1800XL around $300 , the price point left is around $400, and it's not worth that compared to the 1900 for just a $100 more. It seems that ATI's price structure is out of balance, or am I looking at this the wrong way?

I think that there must not be much stock left of the X1800's, so supply/demand kicks in.

I would say that the X1800's will be dirt cheap on the used market, but don't hold your breath for deals on a new card. Historically the high-end cards have been like that for the most part.

All the price points are screwed up right now...

Taking a quick browse on the egg, you see:

7800GTX 512 $750 - in and out of stock (more often out than in)
X1900XTX $590 - $650
X1900XT $500 - $550
X1800XT $470 - $530
7800GTX $450 - $570
X1800XL $320 - $400
7800GT $280 - $325

It's clear from looking at this that the X1800XT and 7800GTX are still competing against each other as the two top cards and are thus over priced. The GTX 512 is just silly. The X1800XL is priced about where the GTX and X1800XT should be. The only cards offering any real value in comparison to the rest of the market are the X1900XT and the 7800GT. Finally, the X1900XT is the performance/availability king of the hill, yet it's still somewhat reasonably priced if you just gotta have the top card.

6800 Ultras are still priced at $500 or more. Why haven't the prices adjusted? Who knows? Doesn't make much sense. Hopefully the remaining X1800 cards will come down in price but like someone said, there's probably not many left to sell anyway.

You can thank Nvidia and it's GTX512 debacle for allowing high end prices to ratchet up another notch yet again. The 1900XTX should have premiered at around $500-550, same as the 7800GTX when it first came out. Then GTX and X1800XT prices would drop accordingly. Instead, since there is this GTX512 with a whopping $750 price tag, ATI now is able to split the difference and price their new card at $600-650.

Its still amazing how the card gets sold.. even at $999 :D

I guess demand/supply has to do with the pricing.

Hype and exclusivity would be more accurate......

Here I was thinking that this phenomenon was just an Australian thing.

Now I am glad and worried at the same time to see it happens in America too.

I figured it was the computer stores - over here we don't have any large chains (yet), small chains and single stores always seem to have the worst customer service ever. I thought they just have poor business sense (customer service, marketing, sales, etc).

No it's not Nvidia fault alone on this. ATI started it with the x800/x850 xt PE editions, and even if they didn't. No one forced them to price their cards as they are. They did this based on supply and demand. Stop being so biased, there blame enuf for current prices to go around.
