I just got my new Sapphire X1800XT installed and I'm running in to a couple different problems. Well one isn't really a "problem", I just think there might be something wrong.

1st - Whenever I turn my computer on, the video card fan roars as loud as it can, as fast as it can (I'm assuming, I mean it can't get any louder than it gets), but after about 3 seconds, after the computer beeps and starts the bootup processs, the fan goes completely silent. I'm not sure if the fan is even spinning at all after it's initial startup, as I can't see it cuz my case doesn't allow visual access to underneath the video card. I reach behind where the fan blows out the back and there is no airflow. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be like this, what can I do? I've checked the connection for the fan to the card and it's in good. I dont' want it to overheat, and i'm scared to overclock it with ATITool if the fan isn't doing it's job. Is it normal during bootup for the fan to roar and move alot of air, then just stop when windows starts to load?

2nd - I mostly play HL2, and I got this card in hopes to take advantage of the R8 HDR Bloom mini-mod, but something is screwed up. When I launch modded game, everything (menus, gameplay, etc) has a purple checkered overlay on top of the graphics. wtf is this about? Is there a setting that i'm supposed to turn on for the card to be able to work with HDR in HL2?

p.s - I'm using the latest 6.5 drivers for the card, and running a Pentium D 805 @3.3ghz on an arctic cooler 7, Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI mainboard with a gig of ram.

Not sure about the second problem, but the first "problem" is completely normal. My XTX always runs the fan at 100% when I turn the computer on, but goes quiet after the post. THis happens because the video card BIOS is set to 27% fan speed at default. Dont worry, the fan is spinning, but it's defaulting to such a low speed u can't hear it.

Use ATI Tool under "settings" or ATI Tray Tools under "overclocking" to increase the fan speed.

Thanx, ATITool fixed the fan issue for me, now it's safe to overclock this thing :) Any suggestions on the weird HDR problem in Half-Life 2?

You have zero problems with your card, Fan thing is normal and the checkerboard thing in halflife is missing textures. EIther they didnt download or you have to get them from somehwere else.
