Do you have an X1800 card? If you do you should record a high quality FRAPs video when the patch is released and I'll host it for you.

I'm going to get a 7800GT or a 1800XL as a Channuka present for myself, depends on what I can get the best deal on, If I do get the XL I'll record a FRAPs video for you (although chances are it'll be a GT as they are $50 cheaper).

They are stunning. The sunlight 'haze' is overamped though. I would suspect that it was tweaked up in the modeling to show better in normal high quality and with this method, it comes out too opaque and hot in HDR.

Yeah but compare this games HDR vs AOE3 and it blows away the latter game. The developers of AOE3 really botched up the HDR implementation but Crytek did a fairly good job (best I've seen so far).

Don't get me wrong, I was drooling. Spent too much time working on some animation and video... too much the critic ;) (new version of editor, new version of A:M - 720p goodness).

nice shots!

tis looking good. playable too! though 12x10 is probably the limit, 16x12 would be too much for it i think (if 4xAA and 8xAF were kept). still its good to see it working

Hmm I'm not sure which issue you're referring to? I do know that nVidia cards do not properly render shadows in Far Cry but that's a subject that's been covered in another thread.

Nobody needs this junk!

LOL-psych. Screenshots look good, can't argue with better IQ as that's why we spend the money. :)

why does everyone think this is the best HDR? It seems to have too much of a performance cost, I mean, look at Valve's HDR in Half-Life 2:Lost Coast.. hell even in the map De_Nuke for CS:S, the HDR is amazing, and realistic. Its not overbright or anything (expected though for the cartoony imagery of FarCry).
is there something I am missing?

You're joking I hope? HL2 HDR sucks in comparison to FC HDR. It doesn't have the high dynamic range colors that Far Cry uses. HL2 HDR = fancy bloom effects.

Agreed, IQ is the most important thing to me as a gamer since I tend to be a graphics whore. nVidia took the right step by introducing FP 16 HDR to the masses and now I'm glad ATi has taken it a bit further.

Personally, I like the HL2 HDR better, much more realistic. The colors on the Farcry shots are oversaturated.

Well Farcry is almost 2 years old now.

I'm sure there are many games on the horizon that will show off HDR. The Unreal 3 engine is getting a lot of hype, hopefully we will see games based on that soon.

COD2 did a pretty good job of it.

maybe I just haven't properly experienced the FarCry HDR, but honestly, it seems too over-enhanced to be realistic.
I look at the sun and the streets, and don't see that many colors. And maybe slight color-blindness leads me in one direction as well.
To me, real-life lights dont seem to be like they are in FarCry. I feel HL2 captures the realism a bit more but being a bit more of a 'mellower'.
Now what I haven't experienced properly is how FarCry's HDR effects lighting when out of the direct path of the light, such as how dark and 'vivid' the shadows are when at the edge of the light, or how bright a building is when washed with light.
those screenshots dont capture it, and till I see it in motion I have to settle on HL2's HDR.

I like the Far Cry HDR better. Both are overdone in certain places. DoD:S has crappy HDR IMO, and Lost Coast's is pretty good.

I never got to play with the HDR in DoD:S, but yea Lost Coast is a prime example of it, and CS:S's De_Nuke map seems to be a good example as well. I'm looking forward to Aftermath, full-on HDR. Just gotta get around to playing HL2 again and pick up where I left off and finish.

The screenshots look nice and the framerate doesn't look too bad either; of course there is a good case to run non-HDR at 1920x1440 but I suppose that's personal preference.

I hope the patch will be out soon.
