Given ATI's recent track record on that front, I'd say we can expect the cards to be generally available before Christmas, but I wouldn't bet the bank on immediate gratification.

ATi's "recent" track recrord has been good, as far as launches. Looks like the reviewer was flat out wrong, since it is available today.

Flat out wrong? Isn't today a day that's before christmas? :b

What about 'I wouldn't bet the bank on immediate gratification." dont you get? He suggested it wouldnt be available today. When in fact it is.

Note: I do not want to start another flamewar/discussion about this; I'm just trying to provide some context to this somewhat off-topic tangent.

There's some leeway as to how you can read a particular piece of news, but the thread being referenced here was particularly bad. link to thread

If you follow the link to B3D and read the original XBitLabs article, all it says is that Sapphire (not ATI) was planning on putting out a 256MB X1800XT Crossfire card. The original article says nothing about whether or not there will be a 512MB X1800XT Crossfire (it doesn't say there will be, nor does it say there will not). Somehow, out of that, Rollo got "X1800XT Crossfire to only be 256MB!".

Hey Nitro, are you going to flash to the 700/800 bios and see if the cut to a one year warranty matters or not?

Maybe, but I have a few obstacles in the way...

1) I can't find the BIOS file on the page Ackmed linked to.
2) I have a final tomorrow evening that I need to study for tonight.
3) I'm already running the card very close to that (689/797) anyway via Overdrive, so I'm not sure I see the point. Although, I'm curious if the BIOS increases the voltage as well.

Edit: I actually found a link to the files on rage3d, if anyone else is interested:

How bout this? link

If you're longing to see a $1200 Radeon graphics subsystem under the Christmas three this year, you will need a Radeon X1800 CrossFire Edition graphics card. This magical device will allow you to sync up with a regular Radeon X1800 XT or XL graphics card for nearly double the rendering power of a single card. This new CrossFire card also sweeps away some of the limitations of the first-generation CrossFire hardware introduced just a couple of months ago, allowing mega-high-res gaming, among other things.

😉

Powercolor never cut their warranty, it's 2 years.

What's the procedure?

I downloaded the zip file. Just double click the exe????

This is the first ATI card I've owned in 2 years, I would do a bit of research before flashing your card.

Have you run the CCC utility that determines the "suggested clockspeeds"? I would do that first, and make sure those speeds are stable before flashing the BIOS.

Just noticed the tech review uses the 5.10a beta drivers? Huh? Why use the newest drivers for NV, yet two month old drivers for ATi? Doesnt make any sense to me.

That doesn't help Nitro with his BBA card though. (and I'm just teasing him a bit- no way I'd OC a X1800XT with that bios)

Agreed, why not crossfire X1xxx master cards as Nvidia did with the entire 6xxx & 7xxx series? & after all the waiting for these special cards, they get clobbered by Nvidia...LOL

WOW, talk about backing the runner-up!

I'm not going to either, but a few guys in the thread I linked to at rage3d have.

As I already mentioned, the X1800XL does have a Xfire card that corresponds to its specs/clockspeeds, it's just called "X1800 Crossfire Edition". It doesn't appear to be available yet though.

Wouldn't be worth the risk to me- I'm not one to chance frying good high end parts.

Why not just OC the XL to X1800XT CF edition speeds? Some XLs OC alot so i dont see what this "downgrade" nonsense is. Stick in two Zalman coolers and there you go. A cheaper XT crossfire setup.

im waiting for ATs review on this.

Not available yet?, so they dont have one! I will correct my thread when there is!

Okay, so why would someone buy crossfire then? Those benchmarks dont convince me!

Well firstly, Have you thought about playing games at 16x12 6xAA (plus Adaptive) and HQ AF 16xAF? or even better. 16x12 HDR 4/6xAA HQ 16xAF!! now the IQ would be awesome. Im talking about the real mens bench.

However, i heard GTXs are being sold cheaper to the partners meaning we could be seeing price drops. Maybe not, but also the 512GTX Sli setup is in the league of its own.

The only thing im dissapointed is that X1800XL crossfire once again got edged out against the 7800GT SLi.

sorry i misread that website. I thought it said you'd have to use the xt mastercard for an Xl. Honestly i just want a mastercard period to use the topmost slot.

Cookie, looked to me like the gtx sli matched if not beat the xt crossfire in most benchies 1600x1200 max'd out, even the gt sli combo gave it a run for the money. As for HDR, wasnt much between them again at hi res. Certainly not enough there to convince me!

Oh, to add to that, by the time they get the driver better to lead if they can in all benchies, R580 & G71/72 will be out. Typical of ATI!, trailing again and bringing out conpetition TOO late!

Can't argue with with that, but the point is that ATI isn't only planning on releasing the XT version of the Crossfire cards. Right now though, NV certainly has the adantage when it comes to dual card setups. That being said, Ackmed has another thread that mentions Crossfire compatibility with Intel chipsets and possibly even nForce4 SLI. This would definitely be an intersting development IMO.

Your forgetting they havent used the more eye candy AA and AF. The X1800 series take much less hit than NV cards. Such as 6xAA and HQ 16xAF. This is one thing i like about the X1 series is that they take absolutely no hit when enabling AA/AF compared to the NV cards.

If your going to spend $1000 dollars worth of graphic cards, wouldnt you be playing at a much higher settings than simply 4xAA 16xAF?
