i have a 2.6 ghz 3000+ amd64 i was wondering if this would be bottelnecked with a x1800xt or 7800gt in games.. i can even hit 2.7 stable if i up my voltage a lil anyway i was thinking of upgrading to a 3800+ x2 or the 165 opteron and gettin those to about 2.6 hopefully
i know a 4800+ with a 7800gtx or x1800xt is not very limited so i think my cpu would be fien since games onyl run off of 1 cpu .. or are the dual core ones just make it all that much faster? some input on my decision making would be helpful
thnx

No your cpu won't be bottlenecked with the 7800gt or x1800xt... dual core is not really necessary if you're just gaming.

A 2.6ghrtz AMD64 is basically a FX-55 with half the L2 cache. You will most definitely be not cpu limited on anything less than a SLI setup (and even that is doubtful). At the highest resolutions and settings (1600 X 1200 4XAA 16XAF etc.) it becomes almost purely a video card limitation regardless of cpu within reason. Go to www.xbitlabs.com and you will find a cpu/gpu limitation test article that is quite interesting.

It's not a bad thing to have though, especially considering the patches being released for SMP support.

sweet deal thats what i fugured..even if my 3dmark 05 scores are a tad lower it doesnt matter cuz it uses liek 1024 res and crap graphics. And in game id be like full detail with 1280x960 with AA and AF so therefore its not gonna bottleneck in games
thanks alot merry xmas :p

one more question .. i hear games will be not very smooth at high detail in newer games.. if you have 1 gb ram ..so i was thuink in botu just gettin a vid card and 1 gb more ram
but if i get teh x1800xt .that has 512mb ram on the card so it should not run out and start using y system ram would it? if so i could get that and not get more ram therefore save money and have a better card than a 7800gt or 7800gtx

x1800xts are very nice cards. However, they are in short supply, and are very highly priced. Right now your system is more than sufficient to handle high LOD. Also, system RAM and Video Card RAM do not necessarily work together....that is another topic that i am not fully qualified to explain, however just because your video card would have 512mb of RAM does not mean you would not need to use system RAM. Again, wait a while before you get any upgrades, your system is good.
