Biggest determinent for me would be how soon after this card you plan to upgrade. New card in 1 year for DX10/Vista,etc. I would go for the 1800. If you plan to hold the card for 2+ years than definetly the 1900.

depends on the resolutions you play at. what size monitor do you use and at what resolution do you wish to use? i'm assuming max detail and full eye candy

Generaly I upgrade every 1 -2 years just depending on if the card I currently have runs all the games I want w/ a good lvl of eye candy and for Serious Sam 2 and Oblivion the X800XL isn't cuting it, so at a min I'd keep it a year. plus my old cards normaly get passed down to my little brother or my Dad so I'm just not sure if 3x the pixel shaders and the lifetime warrently I may be voiding anyways by replacing the HSF are worth it for the extra 100.

See my Sig for system Specs but I use a 21" Sony tube CRT that maxes out at 1840 x 1400 or something like that, Generaly I game at 1600x1200 @ 85 Hz if I can though.

Well thats the resolution and Hrtz that I game at and I just recently went with the X1800XT and very happy with it. 6AA/16AF in Battlefield 2 runs smooth-60+ and usually in the 70's and 80's. If you are really into Serious Sam 2 as like the game you will play 90 percent of the time you might want to consider the 7900GT as Nvidia kicks major a@@ in that game.

The cooler I listed performs just as well as the Zalman and better under max overclock according to the reviews I've read plus its cheaper :) VF1 Plus review they aslo review the vf900 and compare them, under normal condishions the Vf900 slightly outdoes the vf1 plus but under max load the vf1 plus wins so I opted to go w/ that :) both seem to be excellent choices but I can't justify the 50+ bucks for the VF900 even as pleased as I am w/ my VF 700 alcu

In general I'm seeing a 10-15 fps difference between the 1800 vs the 1900 at 1600x1200 which is the normal res I play at, and with AA it seems to be the difference between a playable frame rate and one thats marginal in some games.

I'm still having trouble beliving I'm even consider paying $439 for a video card though since I"m only spending $100 more than a comparable x1800 I'm just not sure the extra 20% ish performance bost on average is worth the cost.

I've basicly ruled out the 7900GT just cause of avi. and I think a 512 mb card will be a bit more future proof but I wish I had some hard numbers between the 2 cards for Oblivon since thats the main game I'd be upgrading for.

I assume he's referring to hardware decoding/encoding support for .AVI files. I can't recall what Avivo or Purevideo would do, so I can't comment on if thats correct.

Oh ok. Thanks. I thought it had something to do with Oblivion. I just got done playing that game for a couple of hours. Man, I'm hooked. I have a Geforce 7800GTX btw.

If you want to play Oblivion at 16x12, you need to get the 1900.

Easy enough? :p

I have a Dell 30" and so I run at 1600x900 with the Geforce 7800GTX with pretty smooth performance. So I think an ATI X1800XT would probably do. But then I don't run AA because my graphics card can't run AA and HDR at the same time :(

I have yet to see a game where HDR is not overdone to much. Its getting better but I feel it is overdone to much.

I heard somewhere that the 48 shaders that u get with the X1900XT make a huge difference in newer games like oblivion. More than the fps the Image quality that u get with the X1900XT is way better than its predeccesors of the 7900GT. Again this is what I heard froma friend and kinda seemed to make sense after reading the Xbitlabs review.

can anyone confirm that oblivion manages video memory at 256MB and won't make use of 512MB. I read it somewhere but sounds a little dumb to me.
