X1800XL vs 7800GT Purchase Poll

It has been suggested (incorrectly)in another poll on this board that the X1800XL and the 7800GT are comparably priced products. This is not so- the 7800GT retails for $40-$100 (or more) less than the ATI X1800XL.

Also, the first poll compared the cheapest OEM to a retail product, without even noting the prominently displayed rebate on the linked page, which reduced the price by $30..

Furthermore, the brand selected for the 7800GT was a brand that some board members have a strong bias against. (although with a double lifetime warranty that may change- consider the 1 year warranties on BBA cards that make up 95% of the X1800XLs available)

If anyone can send me a link to a cheaper X1800XL or 7800GT, I'll update this poll.

Although this is somewhat of a "repost", I feel the other poll offers a misleading picture of 7800GT pricing, I think they were cheaper than that in the Best Buy ad this week! LOL

7800GT for $289

X1800XL for $389

Well bringing up a product that has been out for a while, and now this particular price at the lowest ever seen for it and comparing that to a product just hitting the street which will automatically inflate the price. Remember products newly released typically carry a premium until the product has reached stocking levels and the price gouging starts to come down. AMD X2s anyone?

We all know ATI is having problems delivering products, but it's a bit unfair to compare pricing when the retail price is fluctuating so much do to the limited stock.

Also comparing retailer to retailer, you get the cheapest AMIR 7800GT at newegg come to $344 for an XFX card.

Edit 2: without a mail-in rebate you are looking at $15-20 difference in card pricing. Hardly what I would call a deal breaker on a $350-400 card.

The GT even trumps the XL at nearly all settings. (AA and AF included). The only thing the XL has going for it is slightly superior IQ.

(The XT however is a different story in regards to performance)

7800GT IMO. I think it's an absolute steal.

I personally wouldn't even consider an X1800XL based on the 7800GT price/performance, but i do find it hilarious that Rollo felt that his precious nVidia was being threatened, so much so that he had to make a new thread about it :D

Rollow should change it to 319 + 37 cents + Wasted Ink+ wasted paper Vs 389. TD rebates=very unreliable.

I don't know. I asked that guy to correct the problems with his poll. He's spreading misinformation, I'm spreading accurate information. :)

If I didn't have an AGP system I'd have that GT by now. Since I don't I
ll be waiting awhile and probably just get a GTX or something. Unless of course the prices drop on the ATI's.

No one is saying that newly released products aren't at their highest price point. I am correctign the misinformation spread in the other poll. They are comparable competing products though, and the prices are what they are. We can't use anything for pricing other than what it is.

We all know ATI is having problems delivering products, but it's a bit unfair to compare pricing when the retail price is fluctuating so much do to the limited stock.
Why? It's not nVidia, or the consumers fault ATI can't deliver products in a timely fashion in quantities similar to nVidia? Comparable products- what's the point of his poll if you use fantasy conditions like equal pricing and availability? I have to deal with the real world, likely you do too?

Also comparing retailer to retailer, you get the cheapest AMIR 7800GT at newegg come to $344 for an XFX card.
1. Why would you only compare at the same retailer? Like I said, show me lower elsewhere and I'll post it?
2. Bzzzzt. MSI= $335AMIR, Albatron=$339 AMIR, at newegg.

Edit 2: without a mail-in rebate you are looking at $15-20 difference in card pricing. Hardly what I would call a deal breaker on a $350-400 card.
Why would you consider the price w/o mail in rebate? It's not worth $20-$30 to you to write down your name and address?

You're right $15-$20 isn't worth caring about one way or the other. How many of us can say they don't care about the $50 final price difference on the cards at newegg? Or how about the $100. difference on this card and the Tiger Direct Fusion?

"Gee, I could buy that faster Fusion 7800GT and a pretty good PCIE motherboard for $389, or I could get a X1800XT that has some better AF for the same $389.".

THAT's a puzzler, I'm sure many are laying awake nights agonizing over that one- faster card, $100 savings- or better AF.

Why? Because 20-30 guys on a website poll didn't get their rebates?

How do you know they met the terms of the rebate?

Do you realize how many 1000s of rebates they must process? Oh, but 30 guys fell through the cracks somehow, TD must be unreliable! 30 guys said it!

How do you know the guys didn't post early, then get rebate? I get them all the time for stuff I forgot I sent them in for.

Also Michal1980 says it's not even a TD rebate, that others have it too?

Do you think more people post they DIDN'T get the rebate, or that people are more likely to post they did? Why would those who did bother?

And last but not least $319 is STILL a $70 price difference, even if you foolishly throw the rebate away.

Got FUD, HACP?
;)

Alot of times, TD tries to be crafty and exclude stuff that let you qualify rebates. They always try to get out of the rebates somehow.

LOL

Yeah they stay in business by deliberately misleading their customers "a lot of times".

I find a "lot of times" that people whose arguments have been picked apart and shown for fallacy revert to making vague allusions that can't really be proved or disproved, don't you HACP?

I am likely the most vocal advocate of the IQ advantages that the x1800xl has over the 7800GT, but being realistic the two parts right now are not close to comparable. From a realistic performance to price perspective the 7800GT absolutely kills the 1800xl- I am going to wait until the price reflects the parts before making a move.

Ben, you are wise.

The X1800XL does indeed have better AF so far (I don't know if it's possible for nV to fix that with drivers or not) and the HDR + AA is a nice touch.

When you're talking about $100 difference in these two parts, you'd almost have to work at ATI to buy a X1800XL at this point.

My point is that people seek out reseller more to complain than praise- you're taking revenge on the guy you didn't get your way with. I don't have time to give out positive to guys who do it right, I make time for guys who do it wrong. ;)
