This isn't really desirable in general. NV has a LOD clamp, so use that. The reason ppl are looking into global positive LOD adjustments is just to counter WoW's (global?) negative adjustments: to zero the LOD, not to make it positive (which leads to blurrier textures).

Zstream, it's also possible not everyone is as sensitive to shimmer as others, similar to AA and AF sensitivity.

(BTW, can we cut down on the excessive quotes? Can you all just delete everything but the last post you're responding to? TIA.)

Madellga, *very* interesting that disabling CatAI improves IQ--even more so that NV and ATI shimmer with different textures. This deserves further investigation from review sites, IMO.

Thanks again for your efforts, but don't kill yourself to investigate a little extra "dew" on the grass. 😉

Not true. I go out of my way to look for it. If you're telling me I have something that I can never see or notice even when I'm looking for it, sounds like it should not have even been a concern to begin with.

Agreed. I hate the Idea of being blind to something visual as I am a very visual person. But not once Have I seen it in game, true I aven't sat down and looked really really hard for it, but even after finally finding out what the shimmering is I can still say I haven't noticed it on my 7800GTX in game.
 
OP, can you try BF2? This isthe game I play the most, and the one that has the worst shimmering with my GTX.

For you it shouldnt be a concern. I sure wouldnt go looking for it. However, just because you dont see it, doesnt mean its not there. Just that you are fortunate enough to not notice it.

Arent you on a 19" CRT? An interesting point was brought up earlier, not sure if you saw it. That people with a larger display may notice it more easily. While I dont have any techincal knowledge as to why this would happen, it makes sense to me. The bigger the screen, the easier to see flaws.

Was referring to the fan noise. The shimmering isnt good though in any game. I'd think NV or ATI could fix any individual game issue by forcing some options on launch if they wanted.

Regarding the cooling, it does go to 80C with the side case cover closed. While playing, the fan goes from 31% to 72% speed. It is the noisiest component on the computer. My case has excellent airflow (Antec P160). As I mentioned yesterday, in warmer cases the noise would be even higher.

The fan noise is going to be a real problem when people with these new ati cards install Windows Vista (when its released) and run in full 3d glass mode. LOL

Difference is Keys....before when we were qouting M0RPH's comments they included personal attacks to ROLLOs intelligence and what not....

I see nothing wrong with that statement, as well as I see nothing wrong with M0RPH saying Rollo is a Nvidia fanboy and Nvidia is Rollos messiah. It is a legit statement that has some merit in both cases. I can respect each persons love for their respective product. Saying someone is a "moron", "liar", and saying ATI/Nvidia "suxors"...now police those statements and try not to be such a busy body.

Next time you berate keys for not considering that your post might be parody in the context of the whole thread, please take the time to at least read the thread subtitle: "Shimmering, Noise, Overclock - Please no trolling, FUD and OT." That way we can avoid mistaking entire sections of worthwhile threads for parody.

Edit: You'll notice I said "threads" plural. I'm trying to avoid the inevitable repeats in future threads, not just this one. I didn't see anything in your posts here to indicate that you understood that you were at fault, so save that condescension for your next parody.
