X1800xl v. 7800gt running at 1680x1050

I realize 1680x1050 is close to 1600x1200 but the earlier reviews of the x1800 series seem a bit off. Judging from the massive Xbitlabs article the x1800xl is pretty evenly matched with the 7800gt at 1280x1024 (i think) with eye candy turned on, but they have nothing discussing 16x12. So are these cards close at that res? Th earlier reviews showed the 7800gt taking a pretty big lead at that res but i think those were w/o aa or af turned on.

I really need help deciding which card to get. The 7800gt is cheaper but if avivo works as some sites have claimed then it' dbe worth an extra $50 for myself. Also, which websites reviews of the cards are the most accurate? Anandtech, extremetech, xbit, firingsquad, hardocp all seem to get different results and have different testing processes.

PS: how are both at overclocking? Well how are the x1800xl's i have not seen many threads on them.

the age of empires 3 results are incredibly bad but otherwise they seem pretty evenly matched. I hope they fix that in new driver.

I see things in price/performance terms.

Here's how it looks to me (in p/p terms):

7800GT > X1800XL
X1800XT > 7800GTX 256 MB
7800GTX 512 MB < joke

Like I said, all else being equal, i'll see what avivo does. and overclockability should factor into price v. performance too.

The X1800XL's seem to overclock better. I've been debating this same thing since my brother needs a new card pretty soon. Even though I own 7800GTs, I still think I'll recommend an X1800XL just because of it's overclocking ability. That's if I can find an X1800XL for a decent price.

Some of the guys over at Xtremehave clocked there's above X1800XT speeds on the core and 1300-1400MHz on the memory I believe.
