x1800 XT - I need some help!

I just bought an OEM Sapphire x1800 XT in place of my GTX512mb.

Now, the performance seems tp be just right for the clock speeds, but those are the problem.

It came @ 600/1400, isnt the card supposed to be 625/1500?!

I can get the memory to 1600-1625 (not past), but the core wont even go to 640 without the screen deciding it wont respond.

The temp isnt getting evento 80C, I have an Antec TPII-550 PSU, I have the catalyst 5.13s, and I'm using ATITool.

I'd appreciate some assitance.

the clockspeed is correct for 2D, it dynamically goes to 625/1500 in 3D applications.

The only thing ATItool is good for is fan control for X1800XT IMO (currently) it seems to screw with my cocks.

I uninstalled it and installed Rivatuner from Guru3D instead. It has awesome hardware monitoring compared to anything ese I tried. I use ATI's overdrive to set the clocks (it runs the max values available in Overdrive with no issues 690/800)

I do like ATItools fan control, Catalyst's dynamic fan contol runs at too low of settings for my setup and its not user configurable. I don't believe Rivatuner has fan control steps (haven't found them yet), only a static setting

Use the built in OC utility and not Ati Tool. You can also flash the bios with the "PE" bios. It works for majority of the people and will run your card at 700/800 on stock cooling.

How do I access overdrive? I couldn't find it. This is my first time ever with an ATi card.

It's available in Catalyst Control Center>advanced view....should be the bottom icon on the driver settings tree.

Found the Overdrive, how safe is it to flash to the PE bios?

Safe enough if it doesn't work, flash it back. Check out xtremesystems.org for full details on the procedure and reversal if needed.

It raises the GPU voltage from 1.4 to 1.48 while in 3D mode, so it generates a bit more heat. Should be safe as long as you have 6 power coil version X1800XT (haven't seen any that aren't)

How can I find out for sure if mine is?

Check my thread Link

OK, I got the PE bios, they flashed fine...

But when I run a 3D App I go from 600/1400 -> 556/1600! What is up with this? My core is actually DROPPING in frequency.

Did you check the "force" button during the flash and made sure the Ati services we disable before flashing?

Read through that thread to see if anyone else encountered the same issue.

Do you have ATItool still installed? Pior to uninstalling it, I would see similar issues with my clocks.

Yes, and I have to say... the AA quality is 10x as good as it was on my GTX512mb. Im astounded, there are now ZERO jaggies at the same settings that were giving me an eyesroe on my GTX...

I am very happy with the trade GTX512 for x1800 XT + $250

BF2 which is a jaggie fest looks beautifully smooth with 6xAAA and 16HQAF (not sure if BF2 uses AF but I keep it on for all games anyway).
