X1800 XL 512mb Edition @ X1800 XT $199.99 at Zipzoomfly.com

The reason you cant hit high memory speeds as a x1800xl is because the x1800xl has tighter memory timings than the x1800xt.

A 1500mhz mem XL would be alot faster than a 1500(750) mhz XT.

i ordered about 10:00 pst this morning im ont he email list to and never got one but i checked this morning and it said ins tock and i ordered my order is still processing and it does say out of stock now lol maybe it was a mistake and they were not really back in stock lol

okay, flash sucessful, now i'm using atitool, and my core keeps bumping down to 475? any idea why?

also my mouse looks kinda tweeked sometimes rare, could someone do a post upgrade step by step

1. what fan setting?
2. use ati tool or ati ccenter
3. tweek voltage of mem or gpu first?

thanks all u rock

Read here might help you answer some of those questions, they did for me.

You need to disable ATI 2D/3D overdrive feature if you haven't. LINK

Is this what keeps changing ati tools clock speed?

my speed is

599.40 gpu
702.00 mem
1.275v core
2.097v mem

could i bump it up? where would one start

Fan speed is too low. If it gets too hot it will automatically bump down the speed.

can peopl post their fan settings and staple speeds and voltage,

i got my gpu up to 625 mem to 750 but it crashes while watching web video, should i bump the core voltage, and mem voltage?

Ok question, should i install the sapphire bios, and to do I mines stable at 600/700 and 1.275v

thoughts, where r people posting bout this?

So here are the complete steps to flash from a MSI X1800XL 512MB card to a MSI X1800XT:
1) Download ATIFLASH. ATI Flash from www.TechPowerup.com
2) Make a bootable disk via DRDFlash: DRDFLash from www.bootdisk.com
3) Copy the extracted (unzipped) ATIFLASH and MSIX1800XT bios from my website to the disk you created in step 2. So you should have ATIFLASH.exe and MSIX18XT.bin (rename if necessary) in the root of your A drive:
MSI X1800XT Bios from Torchedpc.com
4) Reboot your computer
5) When your system boots to the floppy type in this command to save your current bios: atiflash -s 0 oldbios.bin
6) Type in this command to flash the new bios: atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 msix18xt.bin
7) Reboot your computer if successfull
8) Load into windows, install the ATI drivers if not done so previously, launch ATI Catalyst Control Center, Select Advanced View, Select Overdrive and select unlock if you want it to run at 620/750 in 3d mode.

Must I have a floppy drive to do this? It seems like I do because I will need to backup my old BIOS. Well, I don't have a floppy drive 🙁 Am I screwed?

Also, every time I try to up the voltage or the clocks on my card I get crazy colors all over my screen. I took the HSF off and I do have the Samsung 1.2ns memory so I know I'm good there. I've tried ATITool and the other Overclocker program mentioned here and neither will let me get much past 600/675.

My steps from X1800XL to X1800XTPE

1. Buy Card
2. Get card
3. Install card run at stock speed to test it. to make sure its stable
4. reboot and boot to floppy,, (i believe you could use bootable CD)
5. Load the X1800XT bios
6. Run burn in process to test speeds
7. reboot load the sapphine bios
8. restart
Run tests bingo....

my card is running at 60c idle, so gotta figure out how to lower that, i got errors visually Maz, up once i flashed it it was good 2 go

I don't know if booting from cd will be good, cuz I don't think you can save the old bios. I booted from usb thumb drive since I didn't have a floppy either.

Is there a way I can make a CD bootable? I burnt the files to a CD and changed my #1 boot device in BIOS to CD-ROM. After BIOS it said "Booting from CD-ROM" for a few seconds, then it goes into Windows. I think there needs to be a certain file on the CD for my computer to recognize that it's a bootable CD, right?

Thanks!

i believe if u use nero u can make a bootable cd, i have the files of the original bios on my site, so no need to back up your i think

Well, I got it flashed with the MSI bios but every time I try to run a 3D app it artifacts INSTANTLY and my computer is done for. I have no idea if it's because I didn't seat the card back adequately but I think that is pretty easy. I saw the thermal paste, which there was still plenty on there, so I just put the cooler back on and put the eight screws back in very tight. Right now I'm running the fan 100%, just to test it, and it's sitting at 52ºC, which seems very high. When I check ATI tool it says the core is at 594 and the memory is at 693. Are these supposed to be lower? I thought that was indicating what my current 2D clocks were, so I would think they should be a lot lower.

Also, in ATITool it's showing my voltages as: VGPU - 1.275v, MVDDC - 2.097v, MVDDQ - 2.097v, VDDCI - OFF.

I also put my fan back to Dynamic Based and it's at 27% right now. Currently I'm at 62ºC and I bet it will go up another 1-2ºC in the next few minutes, seeing how it's going 🙁

Do you guys think these could have possibly been built, then tested, and didn't meet X1800XT requirements? I sure hope not!

Thanks for any help you guys can provide me. I'd really like to play Oblivion again but that's on hold for now! 🙂

You can download the original bios from LordGestles post in this thread. Then you must downclock your card to boot at 500/500 with ATI Tool. And flash the bios with Winflash tool. YOU MUST SET YOUR CARD TO 500/500 BEFORE YOU FLASH. And you have to click the force button in Winflash to get it to work.

Just an update. I set my voltages to 1.150/1.952/1.952, which is well below stock and set my core and ram to 510 and 560. I ran the windowed HDR demo for 10 minutes and it ran flawlessly; before it would artifact like hell and change color. Next I kept the voltages but upped my cores to 520/570, 10 more. I ran the HDR demo just fine for 10 minutes so I decided to try 3DMark05 with those clocks. Also, the whole time I was running the HDR demo I had the fan on 40% and it never got above 70ºC, so I know it's cooling fine. As soon as I started 3DMark05 my screen went blue and my computer froze. I rebooted but once I got into Windows the screen was still artifacts! I turned it off and let it sit for an hour and just now turned it back on. Things are back to normal but man, I thought for sure it was doomed.

ItsAlive, are you suggesting I flash it back to an X1800XL and leave it like that?

Lastly, any ideas why my card is giving me all these complications and everyone else seems to be just fine? This card is getting NOWHERE near XT speeds 🙁

Thanks for all the help so far, guys. You guys ROCK!

I have to bump my core up to 1.4v to get stable at 650mhz i used ATI Tool....the only flaw in this method is that ATI tool is running in the backround the whole time. I never seemed to have any problems with it tho. My memory is good up to 700mhz with 1.9v tho according to ATI Tool.

I was suggesting if you couldnt seem to get your card stable that you might want to flash back to the original bios to get it working again. Which you had mentioned you couldnt save your original bios due to not having a floppy drive at hand. So i just posted the link to the original bios and the method for reverting back.
