i think that Ati will respond with a PE card . After all. If they clock as well as they claim they do then it would be a fairly easy thing to do. 700-750 clock and the same or better memory as the GTX. this would be interesting.

Sure, we'll see an X1800XT-PE. But how many will they make? 5?

either way NV can respond wth a 7800 ULTRA.

We dont even have official confirmation of the 512mb gtx clock speeds, and you're implying that Nv can magically release an even higher clocked gtx(ultra) if/when they want? If this thing is really clocked at 550/1600 I'd like to see what kind of yields they're gonna get and how much it will sell for. Looking at the $2000 Quadro at 550 mhz doesnt seem like that clock speed is as easily achievable as you would like to believe in a $600 card.

There is always 90nm Munky.

Considering all the problems ATI had with R520 I wouldn't call 90nm a god send, unless nVidia has a way to get around all the problems ATI had then their 90nm parts may be a long time coming.

A new pcb design seems easier, and somehow I doubt 550+mhz G70 cores are as "rare" as they were last june when they started with the quadro 4500

I have a leadtek 7800GT with 256MB and I'm very happy with it. Don't really see a reason for a 512MB card, but its good to see nvidia kicking ati in the butt. So. Go NVIDIA! 😀

The Quadro 4500's core speeds are in question. A big reason I believe Bob may be right is because of the rumor that the 512MB card will still be called a GTX, but obviously I'm guessing blind. Anyone seen a fillrate test?

Huh, I just double-checked nV's site and saw that their fillrate number roughly corresponds to a GTX's, 10.8Gtexels/s (= 450MHz frag. quad clock). Maybe someone made a mistake with the presentation, or they're talking about another part of the core, as Bob says?

Or maybe nV and their fab have simply improved their 110nm cores and can now crank out cores with 550MHz quad clocks?

IIRC nVidia announced that there wouldn't be an Ultra but if this 7800GTX 512MB is as good as the rumors say it may well be the ultra just without the ultra moniker

what i am trying to imply is if for some reason ATI released r580 ahead of its schedule then NV can use the ULTRA prefix without the use of increasing the model number to 7900.

If ATi releases R580, what happens to the just released X1800 XT??
If ATi slashes price for its brand new X1 series what would happen to its revenue and much needed profit?
If ATi ...

I dont understand why so many think releasing graphics cards are that easy for the company.

ATi already suffered many losses (in Q3 and Q4) from 3 re tapes, and the fact they are selling alot less in the high end market (where the profit comes from).

I dont think ATi cant do much apart from X1800 XT PE. And i dont think there want to hurt their X1800 series sales by trying to release the R580 etc.

My 2 cents.

Not true, I have a moniter that supports 1800x1350, fear can run at that resolution, it just needs a 4:3 aspect ratio res. Idiot, stop lying.

If you can believe XFXs bios downloads, yes we do:

wow, my GTX seems so outdated

Lmao. If you see it though from the normal "refresh" point of view it's a normal procedure.. In the previous generation Nvidia didn't have a refresh high end card and that make us feel weird ... 😀
Nevertheless I feel the same way 😛
