With the price of the 7900GT being $299, I wonder if this card missed the target @ $249.

The idea of x1800 GTO's in Crossfire seem ideal until the limitation was mentioned.

24pipe and 500/1300 vs GTO's 12 pipe and ?? ??

1800gto are crap unless they sell for 200 or less. No way in hell im buying that for 250 when i can get a 7800/7900gt. Ati should drop the price or drop the video card

Your sig URL is the funniest thing I've seen all week. :D

You're not understanding something I guess. My post wasn't about pipe line architecture. It was about price. If the price was $249 MSRP as the article stated, then it doesn't make sense to purchase it over the 7900GT which can be had for little under $299.

But, the launch price was already corrected by another member for $199. And, I have yet to see a x1900 XL for $299.

Has anyone picked up the x1800 GTO yet? There was a post about flashing it to an x1800XL via the BIOS to unlock the 16pipes. Although someone stated the prices would be $199 and not $249, it doesn't seem to be one shop selling them for $199.

All depends on which 7600GT's perform equally to it, and how much they cost, since the 7600's are $180~$230, which is quite a wide range of prices, and also whether the X1800GTO is $200 or $250.

$231 is the cheapest X1800GTO on Newegg as of 04/10/2006.

They do unlock, I read that somewhere but you need to flash the bios to unlock it. They said it unlocks >90% of the time, so it's not 100% that it will unlock.

The performance differences don't seem that big between the two, and the prices will likely be similar after a few weeks. However, my question is how LOUD is the fan on the x1800GTO? Just got me a BFG 7600gt (lovely card), runs like a charm, but oh my is the fan loud. From other reviews, looks like they're all like this. I got rid of my last last video card cause of the fan dying and squealing. Now this one is "normally" like this except when idle or running less intense (desktop) stuff. Worst part is having no side panels (waiting to put mines back on).

The x1800gto, while it may be a decent card for $200, is just a stop gap solution from Ati to have at least something to compete with the 7600gt. The real competition will come from r580 derived cores - a 24ps+8tmu x1700xt. If it's clocked at anywhere near 600mhz, it should have no problem beating a x1800gto or a 7600gt in most if not all benches. But it's still unknown how soon we can expect it - probably will be out sometime this summer.

i have one.

i picked it up in the fs/ft forum here for $140 shipped (guy even threw in a vf900). i'd say its a pretty good card in the price range it actually sells in which is ~$200 new. 7900GTs cost $300+ and you cant even find them anywhere. a x1800XL is a much better comparison to the 7900GT and they sell for about $250 which seems pretty fair since the 7900gt is $300.

Do you have any pics? Have you tried to push the clock frequency on it yet?

The firingsquad review shows a 175/160 overclock, while the elitebastards shows only 40/31 overclock. Both reviews are using a PowerColor card. That's quite a variance in overclocking ability.
