You can find the X800 GTO for around 85 bucks or a bit more and will outperforms both by a healthy margin, though is not Shader Model 3.0, at this budget, quite hard task to make the already slow branchy code of the Shader Model 3.0 runs on these cards properly, after all there's no graphic effect in SM 3.0 that the X800 GTO's SM 2.0b cannot do, is just a matter of what do you want or need, but if the SM 3.0 is a must for you, I would suggest the 7600GS, good card for the price.

I'm considering the AGP version of the X1600 PRO 512MB @ $99, which is also rumored to be a BestBuy BF deal. Is there a better AGP card for that price?

You might as well get the 7600gt linked above for 10 more dollars. The 1600pro and 6600gt offer about the same performance, regardless of the memory. A 7600gt will easily beat them.

I've settled on the ATI X1600 PRO 512MB AGP for $99 at Best Buy on Friday because I have $60 in Reward Zone certificates and gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. It will be a nice upgrade from my FX5200.

It's my first time with an ATI card. I've read the how to install threads and will remove the nvidia drivers first and use Driver Cleaner Pro. Is there anything else I should know/do to tweek the card for best performance?

My box: P4 2.66, 1GB DDR2 533, ECS P4M800PRO-M, Win XP pro. I'm mostly interested in decent fps on CS:S and DOD:S.

Thanks.
