I've got a computer that I built a couple of years ago based on the P35 chipset. In fact it's still in my sig and is still my main PC. The video I used when I built it was a HD2900Pro. It's been a solid card for me and I've never really upgraded it since I've moved most of my gaming activities over to my PS3 these days. However,....yesterday a friend game me an HD2600XT from his older system so I thought it would be fun to try the two in CF and run some benchmarks.
I've never set up crossfire before and this would be a legacy crossfire setup (not CFX). I'm wondering if it's even possible with the mismatched cards, and what will I need to do it? Is there even any benefit or would the 2600XT ultimately hamstring the 2900Pro?
I only have one CF ribbon cable that came with my card and I think I may need two but I'm not positive on this. I've read sporatic informaiton about a software crossfire that does away with the cross-connect cables.
Any help is appreciated.
