  1. Overview of the problem
    Sound in games de-synchs
  2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
Sound in games de-synchs. This is usually evident in cutscenes or where the is dialogue, where it's obvious that the subtitles and lip movements match the action but the sound is lagging behind.
  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?
    It's always been like this

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?
    It's completely repeatable

  5. I already tried these steps:
My email records indicate that I tried to fix this last June via correspondence with Creative Labs, but they were almost entirely unhelpful. I have the latest drivers, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, moved PCI slots, and so on. Their final solution was for me to go out and buy a new hard drive, do a fresh windows install and then see if it worked. I gave up on them after that insane solution.

  6. My software:
    • Operating System and service-pack level XP Pro SP3
    • NOD32, although this was happening before I got it
    • Windows Firewall
    • latest Creative drivers. Combined Community Codec Pack

  7. My hardware

    • [*]Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
      [*]Intel E8400
      [*]XFX PVT88PYDE4 8800GT
      [*]2Gx2|MUSHKIN DII800
[*]Whatever power supply comes with an ANTEC|SONATA III 500
[*]I doubt this matters at all, but I have half of a pair of Logitech Z-560 speakers hooked up

[*]Other information that might be relevant
My only remaining theory, other than faulty hardware, is that possibly the plethora of codecs in the community codec pack are somehow screwing with the sound/video synchronization. However, it seems like I'm going to be kicking myself if suddenly all video stops working properly. It's the next logical step, I suppose.

Also, it's worth mentioning, off the top of my head, games that have been effected by this:
Mass Effect, Crysis, Mirror's Edge, Bioshock, and the worst of all was Saint's Row 2, which I just beat. Those cutscenes desynched instantly.
