I found a used X-Fi and before I buy is anyone using these together with no problems? Also is there any earlier X-Fi cards have any issues? I know its almost a year old.

For the F7 and maybe the F6 bios, if you restart your computer, your drivers get 'lost' and the only way to get them back is to do a hard shutdown and most of the time it reappears. It's a known issue with the DS3 motherboards. I'm using the F8 right now and i think it fixes the problem. So, just update your bios and you're set!

the safest way is obviously CD/Floppy and using the bios qflash program. I usually just put all my settings to stock and use @bios program to update.
