Trying to figure out how to use the flexijack feature on the new X-Fi!

From the manual downloaded from creative's website.

Performs a 3-in-1 function, supporting Microphone-in, Line-in and Digital I/O connections.
Connect one of the following to this jack:
analog devices like cassette players and other line-level sources
a microphone
the Digital I/O Module*
external digital audio devices that accept stereo PCM or compressed Dolby Digital/DTS Bitstream from the S/PDIF output

So, somewhere in the advanced settings for each mode (entertainment, game, recording) you can specify what you want the function of the flexijack to be.

For example:
In game mode you might set it to mic-in to game w/ VOIP.
In entertainment mode you might set it to bitstream Dolby Digital/DTS signals to your receiver
In recording mode you might have it set as a digital-in from a mixing panel or keyboard as part of your home recording studio.

Naturally if you actually used all 3 modes you'd want some kind of switcher between the sources/destinations, or you have to plug/unplug each thing everytime....but I think they really intended the serious studio enthusiasts to be using the cards better than the XtremeMusic (which is what I have) anyway.

On a side note...since I bought only the xtrememusic version, I wonder where I can buy the digital i/o drive separately.

Im wondering if I can use it to hook up the speaker/mic inputs on the front of my case.

I know there's a strange unused proprietary input on the card itself that uses the front headphone port on my Dell case perfectly fine....but I don't think it's a standard thing for non-dell cases. The manual actually says to not hook anything up to it.

Anyway, I imagine you could probably hook them up if you really wanted to snake a cable from the inside of your case to the outside. Depends on what kind of connection your fronts ports require I'd guess...regular 3.5mm jack?

Yeah, you could hook one of those up with some wiring.

This is kind of along the same lines of what we talked about earlier when I said you could run cables from the card through the computer case to the front and plug in there.
