X-box preorder for $499

Give it time. It'll come down. This is just one site. It's the only site that offers preorders for xbox (naturally they're going to over charge it).

Microsoft said it?d be competitively priced when it?s released.

NFS4

Look at those specs. It is a PC. No wonder it'll cost the same as a low end PC.

And when is this thing supposed to come out? I thought it wasn't for another year or so? And if it is that far away, what kind of gullible nitwit would fork out for one now?

Let's see. Three games, probably averaging $50 a pop puts the console at $350. $50 more than the PS2. Big deal. That is competetively priced. The extra $150 3 game bundle is Gamestop trying to jack you. Who cares what they list as a price, MS certainly hasn't announced and MSRP, so how does Gamestop know? They could be way off.

The XBox must play by the same rules as any other console if it wants to survive, no matter what its inner workings are.

It either hits the magic $299 price point, or it dies. PS2 will be $199 by the time XBox is released, and Nintendo is shooting for a super-low price point ($149) for Gamecube. Anything with a "3" after the dollar sign is going to spell trouble for MS.

Word. If microsoft wants to make any money they can't dare play the role of " we are expensive, but it's worth it " and charge like $399 or something because people are gonan opt for the cheaper Ps2 and Gamecube.

Just like with the PS2, most sites prefer to overshoot the price ad then please customers by lowering it as release nears, than undershoot it and risk bad PR/lost orders by raising it.

And honestly, if you're going to preorder THIS early, almost a year in advance, $500 is not that much.

You would have to be crazy to pre-order THIS early. Undoubtedly the price will fall as it get's closer to the actual release date.
BTW, if you read through you'll see this notice indicating that the price of $499 is NOT finalized.
"Pricing is estimated and will be adjusted if necessary after offical pricing announcements."

it can't be that much. that $500 million "marketing" budget is the loss that M$ expects to take selling the hardware.

<< Gamecube is supposed to debut at $150 >>

There will be two versions released. The one in the pictures is supposedly $150 which is awesome. There will also be a version by Panasonic that is also progressive scan DVD player.
