~!!!~ X-Box available at CompUSA

I've read a lot of people saying, "Lucky me, I found an X-Box for $325 at such-n-such place!"

Well, I'm here to tell you that CUSA has them in stock for $300. I work at CUSA, and last time I checked, we had about 30 in stock. Also, we're getting regular shipments of them, so I don't think we'll be running out. Definitely call your local CUSA, or go to the web site to order one before you look all over for one.

Wow. I guess I spoke too soon.

When I went into work today, we still had 15 left. They were gone in 5 hours.

We'll be getting very regular shipments, though, so no worries. If they don't have them at your stores, check back every day. It'll only be about 2 or 3 days in between shipments.

With Christmas coming up? No way!

Dude..., do you really think THAT many parents are gonna fork over 400 dollars?

I just went to my local BB and got one. Of course, I live in champaign so that might explain it 🙂

Halo rocks! Have you guys heard good reviews for any other game out there right now?

I think there were alot of idiots who didn't want a Xbox but purchased one in hopes of profitting off some soccer mom. When they realize that they weren't going to make more than a few bucks, they put it up on the Forsale forum with some pretentious cr@p like "Xbox for sale at cost" and then proceed to add on the shipping cost and sales tax.

<< how come the xbox wasn't as popular as the ps2 from last year? >>

That is an interesting question. Considering they shipped 300K boxes
at launch and certainly didn't sell out. Maybe it's because no one wants
one. (lots of them in my area) -waits for this to be moved to OT- 🙂

"...Considering they shipped 300K boxes at launch and certainly didn't sell out...."

Ummm...
There wasn't a single chain retailer who *wasn't* sold out of the Xbox immediately after launch.

"...How come the xbox wasn't as popular as the ps2 from last year?..."

Your question presupposes the answer...
How long did it take Sony to reach 300,000 units of PS2? 2-3 months? Is this your measure of success?

CHAMPAIGN UP IN THE HIZOUSE!!!!

Get someone over 65 to buy it for you and get 10% off at CompUSA. If the have it for $300 that would make it $270.

Umm...I don't know of anyone who would sell a system that was $300 + tax for anything less than the cost of the unit plus tax plus shipping. If they were selling it for $400 and then added everything then maybe, but why should someone take a loss on it?

Time to put down some more fanboyism:

There wasn't a single chain retailer who *wasn't* sold out of the Xbox immediately after launch.

Walmart near me had 20 systems and only 8 people in line. TRU didn't have a line. ZERO people.

How long did it take Sony to reach 300,000 units of PS2? 2-3 months? Is this your measure of success?

Prior to the launch of Gamecube, PS2 was the fastest-selling console ever.

Halo rocks! Have you guys heard good reviews for any other game out there right now?

Sadly, no. [EDIT] Wait, forgot about Madden 2002. 🙂

PS2 was hot because it was the first of the new generation of consoles. If X-Box or Gamecube had beaten Sony to launch it would have been a different story. In addition, Sony is quite good at keeping demand for their products high by limiting the number of units shipped at any one time.

Cool, thanks for the tip. Was able to get 2 on hold for me at the Vacaville CA store. They still have plenty left.

Im not sure what you consider "fanboyism" but every retail store was sold out of Xboxes, and the line of people watching the xbox demo(as someone was playing) was arguably as long as the lines at the checkout. Im in Seattle, but I would suppose that it would hold for most of the US also. Ebay also seems to be a good measurement as xbox systems seemed to get up to the $400 dollar mark.... IF there were so many laying around at the price of $299 at so many retail stores I seriously doubt this would be happening.

And the reason for the PS2 mania before was that it was first to market(as stated earlier) with a new generation of consoles and the fact that there was a major shortage of consoles early on.

<< I think there were alot of idiots who didn't want a Xbox but purchased one in hopes of profitting off some soccer mom. >>

Its funny because i bought a ps2 last year at regular price to keep. But I saw on ebay all these people paying rediculous amounts so i gave in and sold my $400 bundle for 750. I was curious if the hype was still there like last year but i checked ebay the day before launch and there were about 100 of these out there selling for only $300 flat. So alot of people probably lost money on shipping and tax in the end. Haw Haw Haw.

<< how come the xbox wasn't as popular as the ps2 from last year? >>

Anyway, for those who wonder why PS2 was hot and these arent nearly as hot. Its because prior to the PS2 then the best thing around was the failing dreamcast. So the PS2 was revolutionary. The XBox and the Gamecube are not revolutionary because all the gamers already got their PS2 so the only ones left to buy are the MS Fanboys, Rich kids who get every game system because they can afford it, and geeks (sorry). The Xbox definitely will be a big competitor in the end but right now if I was to buy a system then the PS2 would be first (best games), XBox 2nd (DVD and Harddrive) and Gameboy Advance would be third. GameCube really has nothing to offer until mid 2002 so why bother.

<<Dude..., do you really think THAT many parents are gonna fork over 400 dollars? >>

Well first off its $300. And why wouldnt they? They paid just as much last year for a PS2 and this one is alot better (as far as specs go). I dont like any of the games but Im considering it because i hear the DVD player on it is pretty good,as opposed to the crappy ps2 one that has loads of compatibility problems.

<< "Dude, do you really think that many parents are willing to fork over $400?" >>

Bdog, yes, I do. Say just 1% of parents get their kids an XBox for Christmas. I'm in Tallahassee. I think we have 180,000 people here. I'm estimating that we have about 2,000 XBoxes in stock in town, max. Those things will be gone from most places faster than you can blink. Not to mention, all the college kids (like me) who just go out and buy them on their own. Yesterday, I had 2 people walk out with 2 apiece, 1 guy with 3, and another guy bought 5. They don't stick around long.
