Thank you :)

Same:
Size - 12" form factor
Glossy screen
same sized keyboard

All good although a slightly larger keyboard would be nice. However it's unrealistic in this form factor.

Better:
Dedicated graphics option
Webcam & SIM Card holder
Media control buttons on front
dual output for headphones
much better build quality
PCI-E wifi card and DDR2 Ram
Bluetooth option

Although I would really like BT on my 700m I'm not sure if I would actually use it.

Cons:
Front buttons have blue LEDs - bad if you sleep with laptop in bed sometimes - LED glare in eye
Expensive
Little thicker than 700m (I think but dont remember exactly)
no USB ports at back (dont know if 700m had them at back or not)

Other than the "expensive" the others I can live with. The 700m only has two USB slots on the left hand side which sucks. Wireless mouse + USB headset and they're all occupied :(

Only 5 hours with the 9 cell? That's with full brightness and wifi on right?

yep...5 hrs with full brightness and wifi on (and music/movie playing in background).
m1210 has 4 usb (2 on each side but i wish it had one at the back)
Also, it is really hard to balance this on it side while lying in bed. Would also love an option to turn off the front LED lights. Also, it is little hard to take the battery out/install it back but not that bad.

The keyboard is essentially the same as 710m (which was the same as 700m keyboard except white in color). I dont see any room for the keyboard to expand horizantally without increasing the width of the laptop.

BT is great when you have a BT mouse or just want to quickly sync your phone/pda without trying to search for the sync cable.

However, if you dont want the dedicated graphics and are happy with the 700m/710m, then I dont see any reason to upgrade to m1210 (unless you want the dual core cpu in the same form factor). It is basically the same machine with new better outer casing.

However, I still prefer that "WHITE" outer band on the 700m (made all the girls look twice at the laptop :p back at my university - everyone atleast stopped by to have a glance at the 700m while in the computer labs b/c no one could see that it was a dell from far away - looks like a mac). the m1210, you can make out from far away that it is a dell :(

You're right, other than the Core Duo, BT and extra USB ports it's essentially the same laptop.

I might extend the warranty on this and keep using it until it falls apart :(

if your 700m has a CPU higher than 1.6GHz (Higher, not equal ;)), then dont upgrade. But if it is 1.6, then do the upgrade as that is most probably a Banias core (get rid of it while you can still fetch $$ for it....few months down the road when dual core centrino marketing kicks in and no one will want it)

i thought you get the T60 also ? What about ur e1405 ? I say, sell the 700m (if the cpu is banias core)

Damn mine is exactly 1.60GHz, is this good or bad?

Maybe I should open the E1405 but I'm not sure if I'll like it or not.

Dual Core 2 Duo, 1GB, 120GB, Integrated video, 9 cell, DVD-RW, Intel 3945, 14.1, XP MCE with Vista Home Premium upgrade, 1 year for $799

What would you do? Open and keep it or sell it?

Yours is a Dothan (came out after Banias but before Yonah). For $799, i would keep the E1405 and sell the 700m (since this is the perfect time to get rid of the banias/dothan CPUs). Few months later, no one will want them once dual cores enter the cheap <$500 market in full flow.

use the E1405 and sell the 700m. I hope that 14.1 incher is a WXGA+ resolution and not WXGA. 14.1" is a great form factor - perfect blend of portability, power and screen size. wondering if I should get the E1405 and save ~$600 but I really want the dedicated graphics as I occasionally game on my laptop.

But, lately, i have stated to hate Dell tech support as it is going downhill...I know exactly whats wrong with my laptop and request a part (ex: dvd burner) but their tech support insists that it is software/user error - made me reformat my laptop 2 times, run several diagnostics and waster several hours of mine and still problem not fixed and finally they send out a replacement dvd burner and problem fixed immediately - thanks dell for wasting my 2 weeks without being able to use my laptop and instead wasting my time on your stupid diagnostics etc etc. From now on, I will happily happy few hundred dollars more for better tech support that will not waste my time (in my college days, I wouldnt care and would go for the cheapest but nowadays, I just dont have enough time to do all that crap what those people at dell reading scripts tell me to do)

EDIT: With the specs on your E1405, i would certainly keep the E1405 and sell the 700m while you can get the best resale value for it. The VISTA is an added bonus.

Going off to sleep..PM me if you have more Qs.
