This looks like it has some huge potential. Anybody know much about this?

Oops, thought I put this in Hot Deals but I guess we can discuss it here too...

is it going to have new and good movies and lots of movies or just old crappy movies or very limited selection?

plus you have to download them. which means waiting a long time, even on a decent dsl or cable connection.

Their top movie downloads are Herbie, The Incredbles, National Treasure, Hostage and Hitch? Wow, sounds like a great selection...

NOT.

No stone tablet movies for you!

What'll be the quality on these? Video wise, but also audio wise. Does it have 5.1? I want 5.1 when I watch some of these movies.

well i'd imagine it'd utilize your entire bandwidth, and you'd be able to stream nearly instantly

heh, so for DVDs you wait 1-3 days but now that you only have to wait a couple hours you guys are still complaining? jeesh!

btw, it sounds like you can basically stream the videos if you want and save that stream inside this custom app so you really don't have to wait the entire time, you can start watching once it starts downloading for a while if you have a good enough connection.

A DVD (we'll round it to 5GBs) would be ~ 5,000,000 KBs. Pulling at even 400kBs, it would take 12,500 seconds, or 208 1/3 minutes, or 3.472 hours.

I'd say that's a little bit more conveinient than NetFlix. Just setup the movies to download every night and it's pretty easy.

If they're Divx compressed, than it would take less than a third of the time.

If I'm paying for them I want to be able to burn them to disc and not have to store them on my computer. According to their website you can play them as often as you like as long as Vongo has the rights to the movie.

You're paying $10 / month not per movie. You have no rights to burn them, just like you don't have the right to copy an HBO program because you pay $2 / month or whatever for HBO.

Yep looks liek a stream or at least a very high compression mode. That and you can;t burn them. If you want to watch them on a TV you have to be able to hook your computer to it.

Still seems like an interesting idea. I'm probably going to download/install their software so I can browse through their library to see what they really have. If they're bragging about those top 5 movies, then they aren't going to survive. :(
