www.newegg.com Changing for the better?

To me, the extra money at Newegg.com is worth it.

Their customer service is BY FAR the best on the web concerning computer parts. As long as you actually call and talk to a person, they'll usually bend over backwards for you. Also, their RMA procedure is quicker than most other places and much more responsive.

Also, while ZZF may offer free 2nd day shipping, they are consistently much slower than Newegg to actually ship the item. An item that is out of Newegg's warehouses normally takes at least 2 days less than ZZF actually shipping an item. When I use Fedex Saver, I normally get it in 2 days anyway.

I'm learning to hate New Egg's search.

Example "HD pci tuner" pulls up 60 results, 3 of which are really HD pci tuners

ZZF, 2 results both actually hd pci tuners

Hmmm... I looked at ZZF for 2 x 1 GB of DDR 400 (3200) and couldn't find anything. New egg had that and first off, allowed me to choose memory based upon selection criteria. ZZF doesn't have that kind of filter.

Also mobo+cpu was $2.68 more expensive at ZZF with free fedex 2day against free UPS 3day.

I just ordered a Hitachi 7K100 60GB hard drive for my laptop. I priced NewEgg and ZZF:

NewEgg: $138 PLUS $1.99 UPS 3-Day shipping
ZZF: $130 w/free 2nd day FedEx shipping

I don't shop at newegg anymore because my FEDEX driver is great! Aside from that, prices aren't as "good" as they used to be, and well, cs is still good, but other stores are earning my business now, especially since I shop out of state a lot to avoid CA tax.

ZZF, well, they have good prices, but their website makes it a little hard to sort things and well, what good is free 2 day shipping when they always take a few days to process the order?

ZZF usually has the best prices, usually. Their website leaves a little to be desired but thats alright, works ok. Mwave used to be really popular, and kind of died off once Newegg came around, but I still use them sometimes too.

I remember you said they packed it up badly though.

No No, that was a hard drive I bought from someone on eBay. That was a 7K60. I just ordered a 7K100

Over the years I have never been anything but 110% totally satisfied with newegg. As for the default shipping option being UPS. WTF? You can operate a drop down list can't you? I don't get all the bitching about UPS being offered. Pointless.

I also have used mwave.com for a very long time and they have great prices. Bought my computer from mwave.com, pick my hardware, assembled and tested for an extra fee. Never used ZZF before but I've shopped them.

Hmm, really? Its completely the opposite for me. Well actually it was. I have been living in Germany for the past 2 months so I haven't ordered anything from Newegg or ZZF for 4 months but even though I too was a Newegg bitch for years, I shopped from ZZF through the last 6 months of 2004 and 2005. Newegg's prices are usually $3-5 higher and their shipping fees for tiny items are ridiculous. And Newegg ships the next day whereas my stuff always got shipped the same day given that I order before 11am...

When I don't really need something that quick then I'll order from newegg. When I need something asap as same day I go to mwave.com. They have a will call dept so you can pick it up same day. They have great price which are very competitive with newegg's with a good amount of selection but of coure not as good as newegg. The only thing is that they throw in a bs $5 handling fee for using will call.

I pretty much exclusively use newegg, zzf, and monarch. Although ive found zzf and monarch are getting a lot more business from me lately.

I usually go to newegg for pics during research for what to buy, but that is going down the sh!tter now b/c theyre lowering the res on all images

I've know about newegg for about 3 years now, but I think what is being described here is what appears Dell computers went through. Everyone said the were the "best" PC to buy and they had the "best" tech support too. We all know that is not true now.

i agree that newegg is raising prices and shipping is a neg. i find myself a lotta times looking for other places to buy my parts

The only issue I have with Newegg is their decision to have UPS as their standard shipping instead of FedEx. In my area, UPS is perhaps the absolute worst in terms of quality of service and speed of delivery. Only a few weeks ago, I ordered a new MP3 player from NewEgg and the package was left at my door (family was home and did not hear any delivery person ring or knock on the door) and OPENED unbelievably enough.

No problem clicking on the drop down, but I never had to do it before, also more then 1/2 the time its gonna cost me more to use FEDEX...which was one of my complaints...what happen to all the FREE shipping )-:
