Check out what they did in a local park. They took down the old Lancaster bomber RCAF memorial due to aging from weather, and replaced it with Spitfire and Hurricane (thanks VoteQuimby) replicas. The flower bed at the base is shaped like the Lanc's shadow, which I thought was just a fantastic creative idea.

This is in Windsor, Ontario:

What did they do to Lancaster? I hope they didn't scrap it. It was one of the biggest bombers in its day.

They are building a new home for it at the local airport - it's very own hangar with a bunch of other stuff from WWII and the RCAF. It's weird to look through the trees and not see the old Lanc, but these are a welcome sight. I believe there will be another Spit down by the riverfront somewhere although I haven't seen it yet.

But Lanc's wingspan is wider then Canada's airstrip can accomodate. Besides, their mechanic gets easily confused when a plane has more then one engine.

Unfortunately You won't find much sympathy or pride in the Military memorials on this BBS.

Soviet Infantry? If so, He should have been given a medal in just surviving the war!

He has received few. The hell he's been through is unimaginable. He susvived the onslaught of 1941, imprisonment, POW camp, escape, undeground resistance, back in the trenches. There are some amazing stories to be told.
