Hey ppl,

I need to do a term paper on WWII & the Philippines. I've been thinking about doing it on the Philippine guerillas fighting the Japanese. I've googled this and nothing but a few sentences would pop up; it would say they'd harass Japanese forces but they didn't say anything else. Does any1 have any recommendations on where else to look? More importantly, did they really have an impact on fighting the Japanese?

Thanks for any help

You could talk about how the Allied soldiers were treated atrociously by the Japs and then discuss the fact that the Filipinos had it even worse...

I've not heard of this personally, but given how many war buffs there are in the world,. if there were more than about 4 of these guys doing what you said I'd be surprised if there isn't at least a full book designated to it :) WWII is documented up the yin yang!

not sure how much they resisted, but after the war they sure as hell wanted the US out. Mcarthur, when he was forced to withdraw by the japanese, swore that he would return and he did and ended up leading japan for a decade or so. if you look at japan back then, i think he did a better job running japan than than the president did of leading the US. just look at that japanese miracle from the 40s to what they became a few decades later. Mcarthur was a great leader or was at least lucky enough to be in charge during it.

that's what i've read and heard. they didn't have a great direct military impact, but they provided good recon and other forms of support.

yeah right. Filipinos are the 2nd more decorated ethnic group desiginated by the USA. There two aspects of the Filipinos in WWII.

1. The Filipinos who registered in Hawaii and US to be in various military branches. They also formed 1st Filipino Batallion in Salinas and grew in numbers from there.

2. They also had Filipinos from the Philippines who formed the Philippine Scouts and went on missions independently and with the Rangers. Another group formed the Guerilla units.

Careful about what you find on the internet, not all of it is credible. There are two MAIN researchers who have contributed greatly to studying and researching the history of Filipinos in the US. Alex Fabros, JR and Daniel Gonzales. They are the WHO IS WHO of this field. Alex Fabros is currently doing more research for UCSB but started his research at San Francisco State University. Daniel Gonzales currently teaches at San Francisco State University. The course that has the interest is Asian American Studies 456 - Filipinos in America.

Just for added credibility, im currently enrolled in this course and just finished studying the Filipinos in WWII. The last 2 days of lecture have been with guest lecturer, Alex Fabros, Jr.
