"The Navajo code was so successful and valued by the United States that some code talkers were guarded by fellow Marines whose role was to kill them in case of imminent capture by the enemy, according to Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-New Mexico, who sponsored a congressional resolution in their honor. The Marines deny that was the policy."

Well ofcourse they deny it. Geesh!

it makes sense. It would not be hard to get information out of someone who is captive. Few will die so many shall live

And what if one of that few happened to be your relative that was shot by a marine of YOUR OWN government?

well, theyd never come out and say it, so you'd never know the truth of how your relative was killed.

or as Spock would say, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one."

When people are recruited for jobs like this they are usually fully aware of both the risks and the sensitive nature of their knowledge.
They know that their deaths will be covered up in some way, they also know that their families are to have no knowledge of their work, their disappearances and any negative outcome that could result from their work.
They literally sign their lives away, and most of them do it happily for their country.
Although it will/would be hard for the relatives I think they should also respect their wishes and be grateful for the sacrifice that they are/were willing to make.
There are still people that have to live by this code of conduct today and who knows what they have saved us from.

Only today do you see selfish statements like this, especially
when you consider the consequences of the Germans being able to
understand Navajo. :disgust:
