OutHouse

did anybody else catch this? i was totally amazed. they redid a bunch of the black and white films into color and i guess reframed it and it looked so much better. the people arent walking or moving like puppets.

My grandfather faught in WWI, i have his uniform, discharge papers and a bunch of other stuff. He was a bugler and in the middle of his PFC stripes is a bugle. He was in 6 battles listed on his discharge papers.

Just wondering if anybody else caught the shows. really amazing.

I would have but I was worn out from watching the show on prior to it, "Sex in WWI".

Only on the History Channel would you find that show.

Anyone who said they were not scared when the went over the top was a damn liar!!

Excellent show. I watched the whole series no I hope they do it to WW2 footage. I have seen some colorized version of WW2 footage but no where near the quality of the WW1 Show was.

I thought it was extremely cool too. I didn't know that they re-mastered the video, but I assumed so, because I know that color didn't come out until ~1940-44 (war).

The videos were awesome!

I wouldn't mind getting the DVD.

DAMMIT. I'm jealous, I wish I had seen that.

And by the way, your grandfather has my thanks. Brutal times, heroic men.

yes I watched a fair amount of this show... VERY good indeed.

The amazing thing to me in WWI is the shear numbers of soliders USED (and I say "used" as thats all they were... it was a numbers game in most cases... nothing more). Nearing the end, Russia had lost/injured 1.8 MILLION men?!?!? My lord... thats staggering to think about. Not to mention the 100's of thousands for many other countries...

The battles were insane period. No to little methodology besides "charge"

It's the dead civilians, war widows, and orphaned children I feel the most sorry for the most. They weren't even part of the fighting and they got screwed out of a life or loved one. That's not fair.

I have my Grandfather's WWII uniform. He was a medic.

Medics are hardcore. Dodging enemy gunfire to help the fallen - that's damn commendable.

Yep. Unfortunately he died before I was born, so I never got to know him. 🙁

Most of the WWII color footage is NOT colorized. It is original and unaltered color film (yes, they had color cameras back then). That's why it may look worse than the digitally altered WWI film you saw.

SOB! I never knew this was coming on or I would have recorded it on my DVR for future viewing pleasure. 🙁 I hope it repeats. That stuff is right up my alley since I am a big military history buff.

I stand corrected.

My goodness.

Holy crap. After looking at those figures you can understand why the french try to avoid war. Mind-boggling. I wonder how many of those would have survived with modern medicine.

I doubt many would have survived with modern medicine, because we had antiseptic.

The problem in WWI was not so much a lack of medical care, as it was old style infantry charges meets the modern machine gun.

Armys lost 50,000 or more men on ONE attack and the lines never moved more than a few yards, if that. It was nuts. Pure insanity. And this stalemate lasted for 3 years.
