WV - We need a new class of criminals...

Librarians... yep, lets criminalize librarians and lock them up for 5 years.

The standards to determine if something is obscene... well that could be as simple as what some right wingnut church ladies determine is obscene, and could result in the imprisonment of a librarian for 5 years and a $25,000 fine.

Of the WV house republicans that voted for this, I wager none of them have been in a library, or read a book since they were forced to in high school.

The 'criminalize legitimate people for things we don't like' formula worked well for abortions, completely expected for it to expand further.

Side note, this kind of horseshit is why people like be defend rights of felons, people with sex crime charges, etc. Always starts there, never ends there.

First it was "just move the books to an age appropriate section."

Then it was "remove them from the library altogether, you can still get the book off Amazon."

Now it's 5 years in jail. LOL.

Oh well, WV will overwhelmingly continue to vote these kinds of politicians into office. Let them have it. All of it. The brain drain (whatever is left) from that state will continue.

Meanwhile ignore the #1 killer of kids.

These people need to rot in hell

Ohman… my oldest child is a librarian, they are also trans. Currently they are working as a supervisor in the Louisville Public library system. I guess their job opportunity sphere just got a little bit smaller… that's just fine with me!

Cool story bro. Most "pro-2A" people vote for the fascists and your little gun won't do shit against the US military.
Cool story bro.

Antifascists with guns had to kill fascists by the millions during WWII, I guess you weren't aware.

You don't convince fascists with words and books. You do it with fists and guns.

As a former library board member and officer, I can safely predict that this bill-IF IT BECOMES BILL (a huge if) would decimate the boards of libraries and museums across the state. These provisions are almost always unpaid volunteers. Library board members tend to be locals interested in supporting the library, museum board members tend to be local bigwigs looking for a prestige appointment. (My former boss was on the board for a major local museum).

If you want to eliminate libraries and museums this will be an extremely effective device to do so. Otherwise I completely fail to see any social benefit to such a law.

I would not panic though-we have fifty states with countless legislators, every one of which can propose a bill. Stupid bills that have absolutely no chance of becoming law are pretty common.

That's a feature, not a bug.

You guys are actually both right. The best defense fascism is to prevent it from gaining acceptance in the first place. An educated/enlightened population leads to laws/regulations that help your average person which helps people keep faith and trust in societies institutions. That trust is the biggest defense against fascism.

Guns only come into play when we are already facing a fascist movement. Even then, you still must maintain an educated and enlightened freedom fighting force.

When we have Steve Bannon's open statement that his goal is to undo the Enlightenment, the destruction of libraries is a natural tactic. It wouldn't be the first time Christian ideology has been expressed in this fashion.
Wow, Bannon's more of a piece of work than I thought. How the F was he ever a Naval officer?
