wth

I don't see why it wouldn't work, to some extent. I sure wouldn't want all of my neighbors and friends to know I wasn't paying my taxes, and they were.

Not that I haven't paid my taxes, because I have... really. I did. 😱

Yeah, I was willing to break the law and risk 'pound me in the ass prison' to get out of paying taxes, but BOY, when I saw my name on that website, I had no choice but to pay my debt.

When we were first married my wife owned a 1980 Hinda Civic she purchased in Montreal. It had valid Quebec plates and customs let it in with no problem. When we went to try and register it in Virginia we started a year long odyssey with the DMV in Richmond because this particular model of Civic was not imported into the US so the VIN number would not come up on any of the states computers. During this whole process my wife would sometimes be met as she left our little townhouse development in the Peoples Republic of Reston because some of our "concerned neighbors" would continually report her to the Fairfax County Police for not having Virginia plates and a county sticker. They were so concerned that we were escaping our taxes on this car that sometimes she would get stopped 2 or 3 times in the same week. I guess people really have heartburn not only with paying taxes but paying them while their neighbors get away without paying them.

In my county your name ends up in the newspaper if you don't pay your taxes. They publish a big list in June.

Were. We escaped Reston for good in 1989 and those particular neighbors 1 year after we moved in when our lease was up.

Wow, talk about invasion of privacy!

I don't see how it's private at all.

It's all public record. The state is just going through an effort to make sure the public knows. If they really wanted to be beyotches about it they would post signs in front of the debtors houses or businesses. Be glad you don't live in South America, there they show up at your place in a brightly lit van that broadcasts how much you owe and has scantily clad women prancing around to draw more attention.

It's money you owe to the public coffers.

I think shame should be used more often, from DUI to taxes, to whatever else. It's cheap and very effective.

Check the front bumper in my maxima
here HA!

Try explaining to your neighbors when your name is printed by mistake. They will screw you, but they won't take the measure to correct their mistake and clear your good name. That's what I hate about these things.

Edit: They = Govt.

Public humiliation is (and always has been) a very effective tool to get people to conform. It has been used by society since the beginning of time.

Anyone have the link to the list for california?
Here.

That's only the top 12 sales and use tax delinquencies. There are only businesses on that list.
Picky, picky, picky. 😛

It was the only link I could find for CA.

It's your state, do your own goddamn snooping. 😛
