WTH...People willing to pay US$177 for a used A64 X2?

seems ridiculous to me, I'm just about to give away my a64x2 5000+ BE but I OC'd it some more and it's doing fine at 3.11ghz

What's up with the "rarity?" It doesn't seem to be just one moron. There have been several bidders & it started at $137.50 .

I noticed when I was looking for an AM2 processor that 6000+ Brisbane cores were running upwards of $250! I was happy to get my 5600+ (2.9Ghz vs. 3.1Ghz, and only 65W TDP vs 89W TDP for the 6000+) for just $50 from another great forum member here 🙂

So I checked on Newegg:
$60 AM3 X2 2.8GHz
$60 Mobo
$45 2 x 1GB DDR3 1066

Total: $165 Brandnew...

"Sucker born every minute?"

yea the prices for 939 x2 cpu's on ebay are ridiculous. I'll regret forever giving the two I had away.

I see Opteron 185s and FX60s go for $300+ regularly. Of course, these were both $1,000 CPUs in 2006 when they were the performance Kings.

I guess some people would rather update just a chip than the motherboard even when common sense says otherwise. Not complaining, as I sold my old 939 FX60 for over 400 over a year ago.

S939 had huge exposure - there are a ton of S939 systems out there. A lot of people don't understand the difference. They just figure out what socket they have and then go on ebay looking for the highest MHz CPU for that socket.

I have a Socket 939 4000 around here somewhere, should have bought the dual core (was torn at the time due to the problems it was having with the nforce3)... I would have made money on that sucker.

Still running a A64 X2 4200+ OC'd to 4800+ that I bought two years ago when Newegg had one last spurt of S939 chips. It's paired with 2GB DDR400 and an 8800GT. The original system was built in early 2005 around an A64 3500+ and a 6600GT.

I keep wanting to upgrade because new parts are so goddam cheap these days, but this thing still runs everything that's coming out just fine at max or near-max settings, so what's the point?

I'm thinking this DX11 stuff could finally break it.
