i bought a Yamaha receiver 2 weeks ago from newegg. found out it has problem handshaking with the PS3 for movies. so i RMA it. not my fault that the amp wasnt working and i had to pay $30 for shipping back a defective item within 30 days.

today, i got a stupid email from newegg that the item serial number is not matching. in effect, saying i didnt return the item that i wanted to return!
WOW.

has this happened to anyone else here?
is newegg going down the drain? this is absurd. i prolly wont ever use newegg ever again. back to amazon prime for me.

Once you learn punctuation, you might want to send their customer support an email. My experiences with newegg CS have been nothing but good.

The moment you found out you had to pay return shipping, you should have called them up and explained the situation (I've heard they are pretty good at waiving fees/return charges) to them.

No idea about the S/N not matching. You sure you didn't try to pull a switcharoo on them?

Newegg is getting tighter and tighter with rma's. They must be ramping up for an ipo so they can destroy the business altogether.

i've been with newegg since early 2000. this is probably the 2nd time i have to return something. and no i didnt pull a switcheroo on newegg.

im very surprised how they can mix up serial numbers on me. called them directly on the phone and they said they are calling yamaha directly to see whats going on. havent heard back from NE since....

I used to have nothing but awesome to say about Newegg. However this past many months I have been experiencing a decline. I don't use them as much and no longer my first goto place.

Dear Newegg,

Paying low level flunkies to patrol forums to try to garner good will be responding like this is glossing over the root cause of the issue. Your customer service levels have declined precipitously, roughly proportional to the number of air purifiers, refrigerators, and microwaves you have sold.

When you sold your soul and tried to become the amazon of online markettng, your focus fizzled and so did you.

Good luck.

Yah newegg is all fine and dandy until you have a problem. Then its like pulling teeth to get a resolution. I got one of those canned newegg forum responses at the time too and the email address bounced. LOL. I think they have a bot searching forums for stuff like this.

The last thing I had to return to newegg was no problem. I will admit that I don't shop there nearly as often as I used to though. It's not because of any poor CS experience though. It's just that Amazon Prime's 2 day free shipping is so good I always check there first for everything.

Yep. Prime gets all my biz now.

Ironically the only thing I ever returned to Newegg (shopping with them for over 10 years) was the first thing I ever bought from them. Some HP scanner back in '02.

Whenever I have to RMA something expensive I take photos to document the condition right before packing it up... Item and the box

A lot of times both the shipping box and the unit itself will have serials numbers. Its likely that if the unit was ever opened and placed in a different box the Serial numbers might not match.

I have to deal with this all the time from HP as even monitors have serial numbers on the box for the units within. If we ever need to RMA it generally the box has been disposed of as we dont keep boxes around in the process of installing 100 units.
