wth is wrong with my air conditioner?

i have a private air conditioning unit in the upstairs of my house. (central heat and air) and whenever it kicks in, the air coming out smells like sour eggs. there is nothing smelly going into the air intake, so it must be something wrong with the unit itself. it still cools the air but this awefull smell is driving me insane. it just started doing this a few months ago, and has gotten worse.

Microbes present in condensate pan!

Pull off the shroud, put on some rubber gloves, mix up a solution of three parts water to one part bleach and clean the drain pan.

Rotten egg odour indicates the presence of hydrogen sulfide. Anerobic bateria will emit hydrogen sulfide. There is most likely buildup of dirt that has gotten wet that permits the harbouring of these microbes in an oxygen depleted environment.
