He's dumb maybe because he doesn't understand that Slovakia is a totally different country than Slovenia!!!

Can you feel comfortable with a president who doesn't even know world geography? Can you be comfortable allowing the dude to push the nuke button for this country? I wouldn't, don't know about you though.

I don't think he is necessarily dumb, but his mannerisms are annoying. They remind me of LBJ, and we don't need a dufus like that back in office. He is not polished, and is definitely not worldly. He scares me because he is not a statesman in any sense of the word, and the ability to communicate is probably one of the most important things a politician can have. I honestly believe he will repeatedly embarass himself and the nation in dealings with foreign countries... they will take the attitude "Look, here comes stupid! *snicker* *snicker* *snicker*" when he arrives to negotiate anything, and will weaken our standing.

I also hate his stance on the environment... the next four years will see a great deal of caving in to industry desires, and will lead to a less clean environment. It will take 10 years to recover from his reckless designs.

I also hate his stance on oil. His attitude is to drill more. We should be investing everything in coming up with alternative fuel sources (fuel cells, ethanol, solar/wind/nuclear, etc), but he is an oil man (if you can call him a man), and he will push through ecology damaging bills that only benefit his oil baron buddies. Dont believe me? The first thing Jeb Bush did in Florida was axe the high speed rail system from tampa-orlando-miami, thus making sure that the roads that are already clogged with travelers will be even more so... and thus more money for the oil families. BTW, Florida put the highspeed rail on the ballot this year and it passed! So much for Jeb's commitment to do the will of the people, or for that matter, any Bush (family leave act anyone? Don't remember, Dad vetoed it as the last act while he was in office. No Bush will win a Humanitarian award...).

The problem with the Bush clan is that it is TOO well connected. Too many people have had a hand in elevating a mediocre group of people (with the exception of Dad) to political powerhouse. They will be spending alot of that political power repaying debts to their backers, and that should scare anyone.

I know we all hate Gore... I do to. I wanted McCain. But I can't really understand why people defend Bush... Do any of you really believe he would be where he is without all his family and the connections that they created for him?

I could go on, but I won't. Look at him for who he is, and not what party he represents. I do that, and my stomach all but turns. He is not a good person, not at all. And he is an incredible hypocrite.

Sorry, I did a write in vote for Jesse Ventura :D, But if I had known how close the vote would have been, I would have voted Gore, just to try and make sure a nepotistic fortunate-son didn't get elected.

NOTE: I know Gore's father was a senator, but actually that was liability to his career, since his father was booted from the senate as a result of his anti-vietnam war stance.

I don't think a president has to know everything or be a scholar to be a good president. Character does matter in my opinion.

As to the swastica remark. My appologies to you who felt offended. I wanted to push the analogy because of this election has been run on absurdities, mass hysteria, emotion, and symbology, anything that can sway non critical people to this or that side. Ask yourself what the hell a W has to do with being the President of the United States. It is better suited to king bo comic book action heros.

My point was not to equate Bush as a Nazi but to show the parallel in the use of propaganda devices. There are known tecniques for manipulating public opinion. He who does not have a care as to how he can be manipulated is destined to be manipulated. Lets ask our leaders to tell us only what they stand for to make our choices, not create a cult of personality like Hitler and all to whom power is more important than truth do.

<<So, you're saying that you wouldn't take advantage of the opportunity if you were in the same position?>>

No, I'm saying that, from what I have observed of Bush, himself, he is not intellectually qualified to be President. My comment was in response to Chef0083's mention of his Harvard MBA. I've known a lot of guys with degrees who didn't measure up to the presumption of intellect that the degree implies.

The greastest and perhaps most slanderous manipulation/propaganda of the campaign has been the innuendo that Gov. Bush is not intelligent.
It is not true, has no basis in fact and has not one shred of evidence to support it.

You need look no father then this thread to see examples of it.

I've got ears. I've heard him speak.

He definitely isn't a moron (as some would have it), but he isn't eloquent either.

Every time he tries to say something cute and witty, it just comes out bad. He has a serious case of the "Quayles".

Oh, Hello Hello Hello!

Since someone else already brough Hitler into the discussion. (stupid analogy btw)

Hitler was known as a great orator. He could hold a crowd spell-bound with his speeches. That should not be the only criteria used to select a leader.

That and whats the deal with his extremely heavy accent? He sounds like a moron, and yet his brother sounds perfectly normal. Switched at birth? Adopted? Wtf? The wrong son ran for president.

If you think, etech, that fine oratory is all it takes to manipulate people, you are sadly mistakened.

Unfortunately, sometimes people earn their stereotyping. I hate to say it, I perceive directly, without the aid of negative ads, that Bush's bulb ain't high wattage. I would like to have a smarter president. It's a job that could have bearing on my life. Gimmy somebody with smarts, please. If he gets the job, I expect him to screw up royally, but I hope he don't.

"Einstein's early childhood is ambiguous. Legend has intertwined itself with truth. Furthermore, Einstein himself fails to recall much of his childhood and marks it as unimportant. His learning was slow and his attitude hesitant. He took his time to ponder and his speech was not fluent."

Zucchini, are you really saying that anyone with an accent sounds like a moron? Are you aware of how that makes you sound?

Moonbeam, where is your evidence that Gov. Bush is not intelligent. I have seen enough of your post to be fully aware of your biases toward conservatives. Perhaps that has skewed your perceptions. But please, some evidence that Gov. Bush is less intelligent then Gore, and don't forget to include that Gore could not even pass divinity school. Does that mean that Gore is dumb?

Certainly better than a President who is under criminal investigations, and clearly will stop at nothing to get his way.

ROFL! That's the best case of coincidental irony I've seen in a LOOONG time. :D

<<President who is under criminal investigations>>
I'd rather our next president be under criminal investigations than be flying Air Force One under the influence. I can just see:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt your regularly scheduled broadcast of Cops to bring you this breaking news story. Air Force One has crashed, and President Bush was on the plane. All 214 are assumed dead. We have recovered the pilot's body, and although he has not been identified yet, he has the remnants of beady little eyes and a blood-alchohol level of 6.12."

Oh no etech, I want to stay and watch the Red and Konichiwa show.

In fact, what are you guys doing for Thanksgiving dinner? I know just where to seat you... Nothing like evening out the playing field a bit, I'd say.

;) ;) ;)

Beyond the ignorance displayed in the above statement, (the President does NOT pilot Airforce One), Bush has not been "under" the influence in many years, while Bore is continually "under" investigation.

I'm fully aware the the president doesn't fly Air Force One. It was a rather irreverent and facetious comment. You should lighten up in these political threads...after about ten thousand of them I would think you'd've done that by now.

etech, some of my best friends are conservatives.

I wasn't trying to prove that Bush is a dodo, I was only commenting that he doesn't impress me as being very smart. I don't care if he really is or not, just that I personally trust my judgment and wish I could honestly say I judge him differently. He seems pretty dumb to me. Wish he weren't possibly our next. I don't love Gore, I don't buy the all the garbage thrown at him and I don't instinctively feel he is stupid. He even sounds rather OK smart to me. Time will tell if either lives up to his stereotype.

soapdishp -- <<He has a serious case of the "Quayles".>>

By definition, that would make him a blithering idiot. He's not that stupid, but aside from having a less than eloquent mastery of the English language, his understanding of economic and social policy issues are all suds and no beer.

For example, he says his tax cut is returning our money to us. He seems to forget that it isn't our money to take home until we have paid those who have a prior claim on it. It's called the National Debt, the interest on which is one of the largest items in the U.S. budget, each and every year. Paying it off would put more money in everyone's pockets than any tax cut could possibly manage. It would stimulate a much healthier business environment, because there would be more available capital for expansion. It would also provide more available funds for the libs's social programs, as well.

That would be a win-win situation that Bush-lite proposes to squander, assuming the budget surplus really materializes. The way energy prices are going, it might not happen, but an immediate tax cut would spend the money, regardless.

That is just one example, but he just spits out this drivel without a clue as to the real consequenses.

Tax cuts to stimulate the economy vs. more federal bureacracy and spending. Tax cuts would be much easier to adjust to changing conditions, a federal spending/entitlement program has no end.

If Gore gets all of his programs enacted there no money to pay off the national debt and we would be going futher in debt.

ntu.org
>>In its original analysis released on August 18, NTUF estimated that Presidential hopeful Al Gore?s policy agenda would, if enacted in its entirety, increase federal spending by a grand total of $2.334 trillion over ten years. This amount would swallow all of the projected ten-year, non-Social Security federal budget surplus of $2.173 trillion.

Today, thanks to new campaign-trail promises and more details on existing ones, NTUF now estimates that Gore?s ten-year spending total has reached $3.195 trillion, over $1 trillion more than the Congressional Budget Office?s "on-budget" surplus projection for the next decade. It is also twice the reputed "cost" of Bush?s tax cut plan, which Gore derides as "risky."<<

Yes, some people just do not understand economics, but it is not Gov. Bush. "A tax cut would spend the money". I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the absurdity of that statement.

etech -- About your source for your "information" -- The National Taxpayers Union is a great source for a piece of propaganda entitled, "A Guide Through the Fuzzy Math." I think they invented the system. IMHO, they know less about economics than a chimp with an abacus. :p

<<Tax cuts to stimulate the economy vs. more federal bureacracy and spending.>>

Nice theory, until you stop ignoring what I said, before. Paying off the national debt would do infinitely more to put money in everyone's pocket than any tax cut that primarily benefits those who need it least. Or do you still believe in "trickle down" economics?

And what happens if the Bush is wrong in his estimate of the surplus, and we've already spent that money. Then, we're back to deficits and more interest on a greater debt.

<<If Gore gets all of his programs enacted there no money to pay off the national debt and we would be going futher in debt.>>

Where do you get this drivel? Unlike Bush-lite, Gore is specifically committed to paying off the national debt.

Too much bullsh8! Gotta go.

Harvey,I'm American, born and bred.

What happens when Gore sets ups new entitlements and spend even more money then what is coming in?

Tax cuts are a nice theory, it's late or I would find the source that show that with every tax cut the income from taxes has increased.

Don't forget that Gov. Bush is also proposing to pay down the debt. Tax cuts and paying down the debt is a far better plan then more federal spending, targeted tax cuts to a few and no plan at all to save social security.

Oh well, it's down to the judges in Florida now anyway.
Nite.

PS, what is it about liberals that seem to think the best argument is to attack a source for no other reason then they do not agree with it?
Fuzzy thinking?
