WTH? I just got a popup ad in the middle of my screen!

I like AT forums and wish for them to survive. To survive they needs ads, so I will allow (no intrusive) ads to appear while I browse. Enjoy "stealing" the use of these pages though.

Sure we all do but Personally having ads flash in the corner of my eye, in the middle of text(this forum does not do that) Taking up screen resolution, possible malicious ads, and the type of ads that we are talking about now.

I cannot stand them. If I did not have adblock I would totally not many sites. I do not buy anything from nor do I click the ads.

I would be more then happy pay, a small annual fee with some extra bonuses. To support these forums as I have been a member since 05. These forums have helped me a crap ton.

But I am totally against Ads, and more over the crappy link redirecting they have been doing..

I guess it would all be in how much you were willing to pay.

The more you pay, the more ads are removed (side bar, header bar, and possibly even the main site).

The cheapie plan may just restrict ads to the non-intrusive (and sometimes VERY sneaky) Google-type ads.

Saw the pop-up on my phone this morning at about 2:20 am MST. Couldn't screen shot but the ads were a Crucial with a stick of memory and the Sharp Aquos ad.

I found a way to avoid this, I think. You add a line to hosts file in

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc hosts file with notepad or another editor

127.0.0.1 [URL="http://www.google-analytics.com/"]www.google-analytics.com[/URL]

or any other URL domain that keeps popping up

You may also want to block third-party cookies in your browser(s). For Internet Explorer,

1) click Tools > Internet Options and go to the Privacy tab
2) set the slider to Medium-High and click Apply
3) click the Advanced button and allow first-party cookies, but not third-party cookies

ROFLCOPTER That is what was popping up because of a bad java update install. Not worried google is malicious...

YES indeed. I have had 3rd party cookies blocked for years, so I forgot to mention it.

It can be done under Chrome as well but you have to dig through a lot more layers to find it, which is weird.

Options -> Under the Hood -> Content Settings -> Cookies ->check box.

Last I checked these forums were free...so you can't steal anything on them.

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately the source code of the AT Forums page itself doesn't do us any good since all the ads are loaded via javascript. So you'd need to use something like Firebug or the IE Developer Tools (built-in) in order to see the code and the origins of the ad in question.

I'll keep my eyes open for this ad though in case I catch it first.

Just got a popup "Tell us what you think". It was a white/green themed popup. Sorry, at work, can't give more details.

Not on a virgin system. The ad servers snuck in another on us.

I use adbrite on a website I run and a full-page ad got mistakenly snuck into my ad rotation.
