One of those flash videos that dims the background and plays an ad. Was for the move Inception. Looked like an official Warner Brothers ad.

Are you guys doing that now?
Using Chrome with adblock but I disabled it for Anandteh. Do not have any other tabs or windows open. No running programs except the normal background stuff. Checked Task Manager and nothing weird is running.

Please tell me you arent running ads like that.

Same here. I don't have the tools to get the urls for the flash ads that were on the page at the time but they were for ASRock at the top, google ads at the bottom and, amazingly enough, an inception ad at the left.

According to Virge "In IE8 there's a set of built-in developer tools that allow you to drill down on something by clicking on it. For Firefox you need Firebug (or AdBlock)."

The ad servers are getting creative and figuring out how to piggy back one on top of another.

Just like fighting spam and viruses. Once blocked on a scale by the general public, they start looking for other ways in

bah same here.
I was just coming to post this. Freaking annoying as hell.
I don't have the tools at work to post what info the admins need though :(
Hopefully somebody can snag it.

Given my current standing in the forums, I really dont wish to sound like an asshole, but if you guys cant prevent ads taking over my browser I'll probably start using AdBlock again.

Oh for the love of Mike...

This certainly isn't the kind of ad that's supposed to be getting served. Unfortunately I can't get it to come up. If any of you can, please grab screenshots and the source of the ad so that we can help the ad people find it and get rid of it. No doubt it's coming from a 3rd party ad server, so the only real way to track it down is to look at what causes it to come up.

Cant run a screen capture in time to get it.

I started using Adblock Plus after those IBM flash ads were slowing my computer to a crawl in FF 4.0beta7. Ironically, perhaps, IE seems to be able to throttle flash so that it doesn't slow down the main browser.

Take your strawman somewhere else, sir.

I'll admit you were WAY more polite than I was about to be to him. I'm feeling rather put out today already and when I had this popup show up on my screen as well I got irritated but was happy to see this thread. Then, to have him essentially threadcrap... well....

Anyway, I just saw it too - and it wasn't for inception this time, it was for something else. It was a little 2x2 ad that floated down from the upper left corner of the screen and put itself dead center. I clicked on my other instance of IE because my wife was browsing another site before me and I thought it might be from that one, but it wasn't. I clicked back to AT and a few seconds later it disappeared. I'm going to wipe all my internet files and refresh to see if I can get it back up again.

Adblock Plus

/thread

No that doesn't "/thread"
I like AT forums and wish for them to survive. To survive they needs ads, so I will allow (no intrusive) ads to appear while I browse. Enjoy "stealing" the use of these pages though.

Bah, humbug. I've view 9+ years worth of forum ads. Time to give my eyes a break. Heck, I used to click on one or two sometimes too.

Edit: I would pay a nominal yearly fee for the forums, if it would mean no ads for me. I'm not trying to freeload.
